Here is a powerpoint I made to teach a few extra flags and touch upon the adjectival form of the country names.

So: America/american. It's easy to add more flags or change the ones already in there.

Lesson 1-4
Blazing Pens game. Students can work in teams/groups/solo. You can have them write in their notebooks or on a dry erase board.  The ppt is full of scrambled sentences/words, and students have to unscramble them in a given amount of time (I do 10 seconds). Students who get the correct answer after time is called get a point.

Lesson 1-5
Make a Comic. If your students are anything like mine, they hate acting (because they think they're too 'mature'). I instead made a comic which covers Act Out. I have my students do it in pairs. It involves a few steps.
-Sentence ordering: Students must put sentences from the dialogue in order. (#1-5)
-Fill in the blanks: Students must choose their own answers for the blanks (don't let them copy from the book if possible!)
   -Drawing!: Students illustrate their comic.
-Presentation: You can have students come up and show/read their work to the class.

Lesson 1-6
Mario Bomb Game for Lesson 1 Review.

English Notebook Work
I like to have my kids write in and read from an English notebook at this point.  Reading and writing is often the weakest skill among students and this really helps with both. Here's what I had them write in stages for this chapter:
  • Part 1: N/A (didn't have notebooks yet)
  • Part 2: N/A (didn't have notebooks yet)
  • Part 3: Write the following sentences on the board.  Students must complete them in their notebooks using proper capitalization and spelling. "I __ from Korea.  ___ are from America.  H_ __ from France.  _he __ ____ India."
  • Part 4: Dictate sentences to students.  Afterward, discuss correct spelling of country names. "I am from China.  She is from Canada."
  • Part 5: Spell each country's name as a class and write it on the board.  Students copy the correct spelling into their notebooks.
  • Part 6: Students write "Where are you from?" and "I'm from Korea!".  Students then have a mini spelling test of each of the remaining countries' names

L1.6 Activity: Use AroundTheWorld.ppt to review countries and names.  Students will fold a piece of paper in half twice to create 4 narrow vertical sections.  Trace the shape of a person, keeping the "hands" touching the sides so they unfold into a little chain of people.  On one side, students will write "This is my friend _____.  He/She is from ______." choosing one of the countries provided in the PowerPoint. My paper example includes India, but I forgot it on the PowerPoint--feel free to change out Germany for it.  You guys I'm so sorry this PowerPoint is horrifically stereotyped--I cringed while making it :-[  My kids really wanted a defined "outfit" for each kid they were drawing.  Also, my kids know the difference between England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales and the U.K.  I'm sorry England gets grouped under the UK flag  Please feel free to change anything you think is necessary.

Here is a simple Baskin Robbins 31 reading game for period 4.  Students read a box one by one and the student who reads "Do you?" at the end is out.

Here's a writing worksheet (doublesided - you can print out one slide for each side :) ).

Page 1's first section is just unscramble the words (nationalities - Korean, American, etc.) and draw a line to the correct flag.

Second section is put the words in the sentences into the correct order and write below. If students know their flags, they can draw them in the boxes on the side! :)

Second page is a simple world map with blanks for the country names that appear in Lesson 1. Most kids know their geography, but for some it helps if you have a map that they can look at for clues.

These are some great games thanks! ^^
I also teach a song~ 'The Baby Grands. Where are you from?'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0Khriqu_DI

I hand out the lyrics with blanks for the kids to fill in~ (attached)
Also, I get the kids to make a poster of one sentence each (works perfectly with a class of 25 as some sentences are repeated)
We recorded the class singing the song and make a video of their version with their posters, they loved it  ;D

Here is a more practical idea - get a map - in fact, get a few maps (so that students don't memorize them) and instead of slap the flag type of game, get them to slap a country.  This way they might actually learn the locations of the said countries.

Songs
One song attached as mp4, another good song can be found at http://www.prc.ac.th/Academic/ICTTeacher/ICT2554/Level5/281001/DISCO.SWF - click menu, the top left box then 'Where Are You From?'. There's a button for the song and karaoke version at the top.

Section 1 & 2 Worksheets
Section 1 includes a bingo board - I got the students to choose country names from the list, and they could write them in English or Korean in the boxes. I cut out some small flags and put them in a bag. All students ask 'Where are you from?', then one student takes out a flag and says 'I'm from ...', students cross it out if they have it etc.
Section 2 has a crossword.

Find Your Partner speaking game
Instructions in the PPT. I used the flags from the first worksheet.

Card matching memory game
I used this for the reading section. In teams, students choose 2 cards to flip over. They need to match the flag and the 'I'm from...' sentence. Point if they get a match.

About Gandhi and Disappearing Dialogue
About Gandhi PPT with some advanced dialogue, but pictures to help. Disappearing Dialogue to help the students memorise the dialogue in section 5. I then get them to act it out in from of the class - there's 5 parts so I put them in groups of 4 and one kid doubles as James and the ticket guy.

Although this section doesn't mention England/the UK, if you decide to go into it this is pretty useful to explain the difference between the flags/countries: http://genkienglish.net/uk.swf -

This is a PPT and game I made for lesson 2 (speaking).

Each student gets a card.  On the card will be the name of the club that they are in (I'm in the cooking club, I'm in the dance club, etc).  Also on the card will be the name of person they have to find (Find someone in the baseball club, Find someone in the chess club, etc).  Students use the dialogue (What club are you in?) to find the person they are looking for.  When they do, they have to hold hands (just one hand).  Students continue asking until the whole group has formed a circle (there is only one person per club).

I had 13 students, so I made 13 cards with 13 different clubs.  If you have more students, add however many clubs you need to.  If you have less, take away some cards.  Just make sure that the students can form a circle (each club has a member + someone who has to find that member).  After they had formed a circle, I asked them individually what club they were in and they had to respond.  This activity worked well.

Countries | Four Corners Game
https://youtu.be/4aJRuvZ4qd4

How to play:
Designate a number to each of the four corners in the classroom as students will quickly walk to those corners.
The corners in the room are represented on screen by numbers and pictures.
Before starting the ten second timer – which is done by hitting the white background – review with students the countries and key expressions.

Lesson/Period: Period 4
Focus: Writing
Quick Lesson Plan:
- Make a Sentence Game: Students will work in groups to read the scrambled sentence and write it in the correct order.
Lesson Breakdown:
Divide the class into groups. Unscramble the sentence in your group. One student from each group will write one word on the white board. Next student from each group will write the next word. Continue until the sentence is complete. First group to correctly finish writing the sentence wins a point!

Here's a bomb game to play at the end of the chapter. It's spirited away themed.
I did not make this game. I found it a long time ago on here but can't seem to find the creator.
The original version of the game is fantastic but I edited it heavily because my students like it so much and we played it so much I needed to change the rewards and stuff like that. Anyway enjoy.
