Hello!

This is a lesson I did with my grade 2 students about endangered animals. We started by watching a video on youtube about endangered animals (just look - there's tons of them) and created a list of the animals in the video. Then we went through about 20 endangered animals and learnt their names. Next the students pretended they were the endangered animals and did a speaking activity to practice the phrases from the textbook. And finally we talked about what we can do to help the animals.

The students thought the dialogue was really funny and my co-teachers really enjoyed the lesson. It's definitely more for advanced grade 2 students though - you may need to change it a little if your students aren't as advanced.

I have attached the lesson plan, the student worksheets and the animal names and facts for the speaking activity.

With the recent news that the Trump administration was considering lifting the ban on importing elephant remains from trophy hunting into the US, I was hoping to do a lesson on endangered African elephants and trophy hunting.

But, I'm not sure exactly what sort of activities to do to tie them all together.

I teach at an all-boys' middle school and keeping them motivated and engaged is a daily struggle. Also, I have a few classes that are pretty low-level, so a debate or role-play activity is pretty difficult to pull off.

Any suggestions?
