This song features the key phrases of the chapter. The vocals are kind of muffled but it sounds catchy.

Here is a song and a game for this lesson. My co teacher found both.
The song seems really weird at first but it becomes really catchy and the students really liked it after the second time. Be warned they will sing it all the time. We played it almost every morning to start the lesson day of this chapter.
The next is a speaking game called Hungry man. It is a bit complicated but the students enjoyed. As always make sure they use all of the expressions during the game.

Here is my folder so far. It includes:
- Guessing game. Students guess what food their classmates like. Full instructions are on the PPT. Based on another game I found for third grade. Kept the original game sheet on the PPT for reference :)
- Heads Up 7 Up Instructions PPT (taken from another user so credit to them!). I edited this ppt to fit with this lesson.
- Weird Foods Making PPT. If you know that "do you like broccoli? yes I do yes I do" song, then this is exactly the same except I found a different version. My students love this song. We listened to the song first, then we reviewed the foods that came out. Afterwards, I had them make up their own new weird foods by combining any two foods of their choice. At the end we shared. Turned out to go well alot better than expected.
- Knockout Game
- Intro PPT for period 4 featuring 2 mini "intros" to Chicago deep dish pizza and churros. They mimic the format for the reading parts of the book.
- Chicken telepathy writing game with sheets. All the credit to hopelovepeace for creating this wonderful template!

Black Jack game ( reveal over 11 items of food and go bust!!)
I made this game that went down really well. Involved a lot of repetition of the TL 'Do you want some more' and 'Go ahead help yourself'
Play in 2 teams.
Give each pupil a number
Team 1 starts by saying " I like chicken" ( or another food depending on which picture is showing)
Team 2 say 'Go ahead, help yourself'
Teacher presses next on the PPT and a number of chicken appear.
Team 2 say ' Do you want some more?'
Student 1 says either "yes please" or "No thanks, I'm full"
If student 1 says "yes please" teacher presses next on the PPT and some more chicken appear.
Then it is student 2s turn to say either "yes please' or ' no thanks, i'm full"
If student 1 says " No thanks, I'm full" the teacher gives the team points based on the amount of chicken pieces which are on the screen.
If the team reveals more than 11 chickens they go bust and receive no points
Then it is team 2s turn.
The kids loved it and got very competitive! Hope someone else can find it useful!

Hi! Played this with my students and it worked well. It's inspired by the previous post (the "Blackjack" game).
Students play in groups of four. You need the cards in the back of the book and one dice per group. Student should have a pencil and their notebook/textbook nearby to record their points. (Or you could draw up a score sheet for them.)
How to play:
S1 says: I like _____ .
S2/3/4: Please, go ahead. Help yourself.
S1: (throws the dice)
S2/3/4: Do you want some more?
S1 is either happy with the points that they have and says "No, thanks" OR wants to try to get to 11 points and says "Yes, please." and throws the dice again.
The students lose all their points gained if they exceed 11. The student with the most points gained in the time allotted for the game wins. Hope it can be useful to someone.
*Just to say that modelling how to play with you and your co-teacher and two of your students is helpful, in addition to explaining what needs to be done with the ppt.

Complete lesson including lesson plan
Grade 5 Cheonjae 2 - Help yourself! 1 of 2
I refused to teach the expression "help yourself" because the way it is used in the book is incorrect. What they should be learning is "enjoy your meal". I just did foodie stuff and restaurant role plays over the course of my two classes on this lesson.
I've been using the fabulous resources on waygook all year. I've also been writing lesson plans all year to give to my co-teachers. So I'm basically just going to upload all my lessons in their entirety for anyone else to use. I'm sorry, I haven't sourced all the games and slides that I have used. Some of them I've made myself, of course. A million thanks to all users who must have spent hours putting together PPT bomb games etc.
Some of my lessons have been hugely successful, others much less so. Hey, we're working with kids - second-guessing them is a mine field, right?! They seem particularly to enjoy games with cards or dice. Running dictations and Sleeping Elephants always go down well.
I taught two classes per lesson so my posts will be labelled (lesson title) 1 of 2 and (lesson title) 2 of 2. I haven't edited anything since I used it. Some of my lessons were over-planned ie there was too much for one class, so they have been carried over to subsequent classes. Generally things should be pretty clear. Feel free to PM me if you need any help with anything - but I will only be on waygook until 18 September 2024 when my subscription expires.
