I made an action reading game using the sentences on p. 136-138. Basically, students read the sentences together and if they see a shape above the word, they do the accompanying action. It gets harder each round. They won't be able to do it perfectly, but part of the fun is messing up and getting confused :P

***Definitely not my own concept, my co-teacher used it last year and I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere on here too. Couldn't find the PPT template I saved so had to make a new one *sigh*. Planning to use it next Monday.

Happy Chuseok~~^^

I HAVE DELETED THIS LESSON AS IT IS BEING MONIIZED AGAINST THE CONTENT CREATOR'S WISHES.

I very much welcome an open source system and am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the sites decision to charge for content. I uploaded content with the understanding that it would be used freely by other teachers and do not agree with it being monetized without my consent. Due to this change I have felt it best to remove my work.

Thank you for all those who have shared in the past and I hope the site will retract its new policy and return to an open community-led system.

Hi,

Here are two simple worksheets to check where students are in terms of using the past tense. These were a bit challenging for my students so I chose to give them time to do what they could and then checked the answers together. Afterwards, I had them copy both the present and past tense of the words into their English notebooks.

Works best if Worksheet 1 and 2 are split over Periods 1 and 2.

Cheers!

I have a few materials to share:
Harry Potter's Horrible Vacation: I can't remember whose great idea this was, but I redid the PPT and extended it.  It's a motivation activity that I'll have the students take turns to read aloud. REMOVED
A review PPT with What's Missing? and Matching/memory games at the end. Feel free to change my pictures. REMOVED
Sleeping dragons: like elephants, only it's dragons to go with a Harry Potter theme. REMOVED
RPS writing game: Rock-paper-scissors, point-counting, sentence-writing game.  The students really enjoy this, though it is quite simple.  Instructions included. REMOVED
Review Quiz game: on a swimming pool theme as summer ends.  Questions mostly from lesson 8, but also previous lessons. REMOVED
Twisting words game: I use as a warm-up, it's like blazing pens. REMOVED
And a pass the ball game REMOVED

Basic introduction. Changing from present to past tense. :) Plus the summer vacation worksheet many people are doing!

I left a space where I wrote about my vacation, add yours!

Here's a version of the book's coinflick game that requires them to think a bit more.
I used the sentences from the book (and added a few) but wrote them in future tense.
Flick the coin like normal, read the sentence, and change it to past tense.
You may have to explain that you drop "will" from the sentence when the following word is changed to past tense.

I was able to plan two periods with the help of resources here with much thanks to those who posted. I created a simple, 3-7 minute activity for students to review their sentences. After a very active class creating a project and playing games, I used this activity (right after some book work) as a calm/ fun activity. It is a crossword that uses the phrases the students learned from the chapter.

Certain sentences don't exactly exist in the book, but we reviewed them. Others are variations of sentences. This gets students to pay attention to the differences between a book and many books. I decided to make it challenging by creating 3 different crossword puzzles that use the same sentences but are filled in differently. This way, at least every student was able to work on their own for most of the activity time instead of cheating or whole depending on another student for answers. The hints at the bottom are pictures and they have to write in the sentence of what the person did.

Note: Other than telling the students that their sheets are different, students must also be shown the difference between ACROSS and DOWN. On certain ones there is 1 down and 1 across, also a 4 down and 4 across. Later on, the difference between a book and many books can be drawn. Most advanced students don't need much help, allowing the teacher to actually monitor and scaffold the activity for students who actually need help.

(I let students help each other but you can make it a completely individual activity (at the same time, their puzzles are different but they figure out that similar pictures have similar responses).

So my school is behind because we had renovations for the beginning of September. So we are just finishing 8.5 today. I used the comic idea that was posted before in this thread and adapted it a little bit. Instead of summer vacation, I adapted it to Chuseok. I also have one version that is a fill-in-the-blank review for pg. 136-137. I have three students come up and I give them each a sticky ball (the ones from Diaso) and on the board I have written many possible answers. I then show the slide and they have to throw the ball to fill-in-the-blank correctly as related for the reading section. The first one to throw at the correct answer wins.

My complete lesson for part 4, pages 136 - 137.

Warm-up - what picture is missing?
Textbook Reading + Comprehension Questions
Textbook Read and Check
Memory Challenge - Text from book gets progressively more and more blacked out and students have to recite from memory.
Read and Roleplay - SpongeBob and Pikachu
Omok Game - Print the last slide.  Play in pairs.  One student needs to get 3 rows of 5 to win.

Complete lesson including lesson plan
Grade 5 Cheonjae 2 - How was your vacation? 1 of 1

I've been using the fabulous resources on waygook all year.  I've also been writing lesson plans all year to give to my co-teachers.  So I'm basically just going to upload all my lessons in their entirety for anyone else to use.  I'm sorry, I haven't sourced all the games and slides that I have used.  Some of them I've made myself, of course.  A million thanks to all users who must have spent hours putting together PPT bomb games etc.

Some of my lessons have been hugely successful, others much less so.  Hey, we're working with kids - second-guessing them is a mine field, right?!  They seem particularly to enjoy games with cards or dice.  Running dictations and Sleeping Elephants always go down well.

I taught two classes per lesson so my posts will be labelled (lesson title) 1 of 2 and (lesson title) 2 of 2.  I haven't edited anything since I used it.  Some of my lessons were over-planned ie there was too much for one class, so they have been carried over to subsequent classes.  Generally things should be pretty clear.  Feel free to PM me if you need any help with anything - but I will only be on waygook until 18 September 2024 when my subscription expires.

I ONLY TAUGHT ONE CLASS OF THIS LESSON.

For period 3, Speak and Play. By now the kids are pretty bored with the textbook, so I created a ppt to introduce and practice the dialogues for period 3.
