HelloI would like to be wrong here but I think they have used the wrong rode/rowed for this chapter.I rode a boat sounded strange to me and I thought of a more natural way of saying it - 'I rode in a boat' or 'I went in a boat'. then I looked at the visuals on the CD and the picture is of people 'rowing' a boat.'I rode a boat' and the picture is of 'rowing' a boat.Maybe it is an American way of spelling it?? but I can't find anything saying to spell it that way on the internet (it was a fairly quick search as I don't have that much time).I've shown my co-teacher three ways of spelling that sound (road/rowed/rode) and how the meanings are different. Hopefully I am not wrong! Thanks

Jennifer, the book is correct but unnatural. As an American, I wouldn't use "boat" in general. I would say sailed, paddled, canoed, etc. Or even "took a boat to..." You can easily change it to "rode a bike" though. The other 5th grade book I have says "I saw a future car," and I refuse to teach anything as awkward sounding as "future car" or "future tv"
