First!

My stuff for Period 1, but i guess you could use it whenever.

Intro PPT covering the key vocabulary and phrases for Period 1.

Then there is this cool 'Sickness/Injury Card Game'. This is not my idea. I got it from someone in an older thread, but just adapted it to suit this textbook chapter and the vocabulary from Period 1. It uses the sentences/vocab that the students are supposed to use for the 'Play Zone' section. That's why I cover that stuff in the intro PPT. This book has a bizarre way of expecting the kids to use vocab and sentences for the Play Zone that doesn't come up that often - if at all - previously in the period. anyway.

For this game i made the Injury Game Cards myself. Just print out Slides 1 and 2, there are 30 cards there. Slide 3 contains a sheet to print out, get the students to write the names down on that. You can cut it in half to save paper.

The Injury Card Game Instructions PPT was made by someone else, I just edited it to match the dialog from this chapter.

Students are each given a card with one injury, which they have to keep secret.
The mission is to "collect" all 8 injuries available by practicing the key dialogue with different classmates and writing down the names of their classmates who have the injury they need.

Matching picture game.

-teams need to choose 2 blocks and if they match, they get 1 point. If they don't match, click on the orange circle to close the blocks.

Ppt I made (threw in a couple of extra words because 'Why not?' and it can be fun) as well as a simple role play.  I try to encourage them to come up with their own examples.

Here's a dice game you can use. The winner is the first to draw a complete (battered/injured!) person. Dialog must be completed before drawing. You can play this game against the students on the whiteboard, or have two or more competing teams of students if you like by having the students take turns rolling.

Also a group making game I like to use as a warmup (or time filler). Give a card to each students and they walk around finding everyone with the same card by asking "What's wrong?".

"Dialog Bingo" works well with this type of target vocab. Students write "arm", "leg" etc as usual. But instead of calling out words, use a dialog. Usually I get all students to ask (A) "What's wrong?" and I'll answer (B) "I hurt my ____". Then after one or two rounds I pick a student, and they take the role of B. The next round that student is A and chooses who is B. Repeat til done.

Hello thanks for sharing this game, but I was wondering how do you play it?

Have students race to read the sentences first.

There are plenty of variations like having two teams send one student or three teams, depending on your class size.

You can have them face away from the screen and then turn around like in a Western gunfight or just advance through the powerpoint.

I probably should've mentioned this awhile back but my co-teacher is always "busy" and whenever I ask her to translate some slides on my PPTs she tries to rush through them as quickly as she can. This often leads to errors in the Korean translation which I don't find out about until we're in class & the students get confused, really annoying. So yeah, be sure to get your co-t to double check the translation on these slides before using them in class, sorry to anyone who's ever lost face in front of their students due to the shoddy Korean translation on my PPTs

As always, if/when I make more ppt's I'll edit this post & attach them here. Happy teaching!

Intro: Pretty self explanatory. (Ideal for the first period)

Period 2 & 3 Intro: Added some extra slides to review the key expressions. There's also some hidden slides to introduce the new expression "Be careful. / Watch out! / Look out!" for Period 3 as I plan to use the same intro for that period too. (Ideal for the second & third period)

Slap game: Divide the class into two teams, 2 students come up to the front and have their back facing the TV screen (and me) with fly swatters. The students who are still seated will ask the question "What's wrong?" I then reply "I hurt my ____." Both students then turn around & the first person to slap the correct picture on the TV using the fly swatter gets a point for their team. (Ideal for the first period or second period)

Pass the Ball game: Instructions included in the PPT. (Ideal for the third period)

Baskin Robbins 31 game: Students play in pairs, taking turns reading either 1, 2 or 3 boxes. Whoever reads box 31 is the loser. (Ideal for the fourth period)

I made an intro PPT that I show at the beginning of every lesson (chapter key vocab words, and key phrases), and I also made a game ideal for the last period for review!~

Intro PPT: Every period
The intro ppt contains images from the textbook with key vocab words, and also key phrases.

Shoot the Ball Game: Wrap Up
This template was taken from waygook, and I edited it for this period. There's translation, unscramble, fill in the blank, spelling, and various other questions that test the students' knowledge of the chapter. I have the students play in teams and use whiteboards. After answering the question the team gets 1,2, or 3 shots. A team member can come up and try to shoot a ball or crumbled up piece of paper into a garbage bin. Each successful shot=1 point.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for Kwai_Chang_Kain, I've updated his ppt for this lesson and revised it to for 3 periods with different expression points in lesson suited for my classes. Hope it can help others as well.

Happy teaching ^^

I adjusted a heads up game I found on the site for this unit. I't is ideal to use in P2 or P3.
Thanks to the original creator of the game and for some slides I used from other PPT's .

This game required very little preparation, the kids love playing it and its easy to explain and play.

BTW I added in the expressions "I'm sorry." if ss guessed wrong and "Watch out" if they guessed right. Just to get them use to hearing it and saying it.

The Zombies are Coming!!

I've adapted this from another user (I don't remember who, sorry, but thanks to them) to use for this lesson, and refined the ppt.  The kids loved this - and always wanted to play again, but usually by the 3rd round they stop using English.  It's taken all year to find a game they really liked.

It's easily adaptable to any lesson using a short question/answer structure.

If you don't know this game the introduction and game play instructions in the ppt.  It's a milling activity.  I've also included the zombie card to print and laminate too.  (I found 4 zombies in a class of 25-27 is the best number to have.  I started with 2, humans survive.  3 zombies, humans survive.  4 Zombies, it's close.  5 zombies, zombies always win.)  Mix up the zombie cards with other cards of the same size  (I re-used the cards I had made for another class, and told the kids that those cards mean they are humans).  Hand out the cards face down, tell them to keep them secret and off they go.

This is a Homer Simpson ppt game for the writing chapter.  Students will look at the slide and guess what will happen next.  Then they will write the sentence on the worksheet.  After everyone has written their sentence, play the video to show the answer.  This was so much fun and the kids loved it.  It took some time to edit all the videos, but it was worth it!  Make sure to save the videos and ppt in the same folder.  I will also post my intro Homer Simpson ppt.

I thought my kids were pretty low level so had them watch first. However, I underestimated them and 5 got all correct. They love the simpsons. Thanks.

Here is the Mission Impossible themed running dictation for one of the reading/writing lessons. I will use it for part 6 because it's on a Monday and the students need an activity that gets them out of their chairs on a 'blue Monday'. Anyway thanks to the original creator of this PPT, all I changes was the key phases and the timer. Hope it helps someone as this Unit is quite bare of material.

Lastly, I want to say thanks to the 'Simpsons telepathy writing game' creator, Chitown 312. Amazing stuff, my students loved the activity.

THe PPT had some errors with the question  sequence. Here is an updated version. My apologies to those who had already downloaded it.
