Creative Punishments
« on: June 05, 2015, 02:13:09 pm »
I've been here a couple months and I've mostly witnessed 3 punishments:

1. Stand outside the class.
2. Hop on the spot for 20 minutes
3. The old punch to the skull whilst the student's hair is being pulled

*All administered by the Korean teacher*

The funniest punishment I have seen so far:
Elementary Teacher for grade 6, he draws pirate faces on the girls and kitten faces on the boys using a permanent marker...
Oh my word... It is impossible not to laugh.

Anyone else seen some of these or something interesting and funny?

I've thought of buying the most sour candy possible, and using that as punishment. Anyone who can attest to it's effectiveness?

Open your mind.

This is almost exactly how that whole "my teacher poisoned me with nail polish" debacle started.  Innocent enough until parents get involved.

I've made the rule that students have to buy candy for the class. It worked at my hagwon, but didn't catch on at my public school.

At my public school I make them come and do homework during recess (like a wordsearch).

When I taught middle school, I had the students hold their desks (boys) or chairs (girls). I also had them hold an eraser to the wall with their nose.

The problem with the more creative ones is that they become a distraction, and the other students are always giggling and staring at them.

Teaching at both a Thai public school and now a private-public high school here in Korea, I've seen some pretty funny punishments. My favorite from Korea:

A group of 5-6 boys forced to squat while holding their backpacks in front of them with straight arms. They were right by the big clock near the references to school, so it was also humiliation. Every teacher and student saw them being punished.

A group of students forced into downward-facing dog while being spanked wickedly hard. This was probably the most brutal thing I've seen here in Korea.

Commonly the students are just forced to kneel during passing periods and look at the ground in front of the teacher's office. The often look like beggars.

The only weird/wacky thing I'd do in Thailand was draw a box in the top corner of my blackboard and make the students stand perfectly still with one hand straight up in the box. In Thailand corporal punishment was the norm for Thai teachers. It was pretty sad, but I also felt for the teachers.

I've brought bags of Warheads back from the states because the students have grown to love them.

Mmm That's more of a prize rather than a punishment haha. Perhaps it wasn't the idea..
