So my fifth grade elementary class has dropped down to one student for the majority of the time. Sometimes one or two other girls show up for about 10 minutes, but for the most part it's just me and the one boy.

The big thing I need help with is finding ways to create games with him. All of my class sizes are small, so most of the games I use are focused at 5-9 students... but 1 student is just throwing me off.

Does anyone have some advice for games I could play with him? His English level is quite high, he's brighter than most of my 6th graders, but I'm just not sure what to do.

I suppose most people will think these tiny class sizes are nothing to complain about, but sometimes it's super awkward and hard to get the student motivated.

Thanks for the links in the last response. I have a similar issue where I have groups of 1-3 students at my hagwon that are sometimes difficult to teacher. I am allowed to come up with my own material but sometimes I am 'highly encoruaged' to choose something else. Another issue is trying to keep the students interested and learning, while not just playing games that will be able to give them some new vocab words and such.

Thanks for the advice and links everyone. The first few months were difficult as my TEFL and previous work has all been with larger class sizes so I felt overwhelmed by the small classes (which doesn't quite make sense, I know). But it is all much easier after doing what Foreverparadise recommended, just relaxing and going with the flow.

I've decided to take the next month worth of lessons with my 5th grader and have him create his own Choose Your Own Adventure PowerPoint game. It's basically going to be a writing project where I teach him how to use PowerPoint action buttons and all the little things to make the PPT Game work (and be awesome!).

I'll probably post the materials as I make them even though it's not necessarily something a big, big class would do.

It's just nice to have finally made a decision and committed to something, rather than doing shitty little random lessons on random topics every week. xP
