1. Comparisons Game - (speaking) (10 minutes)

Partners play against each other.
They must fulfill the task to compare themselves.

A student picks a category by making a sentence with the word. The screen will then take you to the challenge page.
Clicking on the smiley face takes you back to the category page.

For each round, use a random number generator to ask a pair to stand up and make a sentence about the result.

2. Comparison Quiz. (speaking) (5 minutes)
Students just guess the answer and I select some to answer in front of the class.

Used the standard Elimination Game template and updated it with dialog from the book and a few Avengers and K-Pop references. Thanks to whoever made the original!

Thanks for these IzEFunni. I changed up the ppt slightly, and created a worksheet with three listening and reading activities. To be used as the second half of Lesson 12 Period 4 (Reading and Writing).

*Edit* I've added a few things to the ppt and fixed some errors, since I needed an extra 40 minute lesson - I did two activities - the worksheet (1) and the comparison exercise (2). They enjoyed both!

I used this as my WRITING PERIOD game, but I'm sure there are many ways to reconfigure this for just about anything:

Street Fighter-ish Themed

1) Each student gets a character card (only the ones from the character select slide 4).

2) One student volunteers for a fight.

3) another student volunteers to challenge.

4) the first student gets to say "I am ~er than you."

5) click on the first student's character and check out his character's stats.

6) Each team then writes down who they think is superior in that regard. ("Sadness is stronger than Optimus.")

7) Check the second student's character's stats.

8 ) Both students get a roll of the die.  This number represents "intensity" and gets added to the base number from the slide. (the prepare the die: use one of those over-sized plush die that comes in the publisher's box of goodies, the kind that has plastic slots on each side.  Cut out the "intensity numbers" and insert one in each side of the die.)

9) the student with the higher BASE + INTENSITY wins that round, and the teams that chose that character get the point.

Don't forget to remove my image as one of the characters.

The sound file on the character select slide plays automatically the first time the slide is opened, but for it to play again subsequently you should press the back button once and then the forward button again.

to return to the character select slide from individual character slides click anywhere on the background image. Some of the character slides have extra animation (such as Do Min-jun) so practice each slide once through before going ahead with it in class. (the forward button will advance the slide/animation, clicking will return it to the character select slide.)

There's a second version of the CAPCOM slide at the very end that can be replaced in to the beginning, but it runs on Quicktime and may not be compatible with your computer.  Also, that slide can be deleted if the game seems to be running slowly.

Also, I inserted the sound and video files into the game already, so it may not be necessary to download them separately here.

Thanks for this awesome idea and ppt donovan.

I'll be using this for the first period of Lesson 12 (listen and speak).  I have added vocab and key expressions (thanks Epgarcia19) at the beginning and trimmed the cards to 30 characters (to match the ppt characters).  Also added some intensity numbers to be slipped into the big dice.

Speaking game (15 minutes) (30ish students)

In this game students use comparisons to describe the animal to their partner. If their partner answers correctly, their team gets a point.

Groups of 4: 2 players against 2 players.
Each group of 4 gets a print-out of the animals.
Each pair takes turns in guessing the animal.

One person may not look at the screen while the other sees which animal appears on the PPT.
The person looking at the screen uses comparative words to describe the animal.
eg. Giraffe: It's taller than the elephant.
OR Ostrich: It's slower than the cheetah but faster than the lion.

Once students have 2 rounds per person (8 rounds), I make the rows in the class compete against each other. The winning row gets candy.

(3 rows in class X 2 rounds each)

Annie Get your Gun - "Anything You Can Do"

These files might work best on GOM player. Play the AVI file first then drag and drop the subtitles in.  [NOTE: I can't upload the subtitles file type (SMI) on Waygook, so if anyone would like them, follow this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxlJ58_FWOZhdllzcGhJMXJzQjA/view?usp=sharing .] If that doesn't work, I also have this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGLnsNPQcls

It wouldn't play for me in GOM Player because it kept saying i had a missing codec. Idk if this was just my comp or not, but i ended up being able to play it in Daum Player just fine ^^

Here is a speed listening game.  Students in pairs compete to see who can circle the corresponding image to whatever sentence you see.

Used the Bond template and the intro PPT from other teachers to make a copy of the Bond bomb game for this chapter. Thanks to the original creators of those PPTs!

My kids insisted they were faster than me. I took them out to the track and made them prove it. Winners win the right to proclaim "I'm faster than teacher."

Baskin N Robbins reading game -  Used this game after doing 'Let's Read' pg. 204-205. First I played as a whole class using the PPT. Each Group could choose to read 1, 2 or 3 squares.  After playing as a class I gave photo copy of last slides and they played in groups of four.

Hello,

References: Comaratives, attributes, age, speed, strength, weight, height, older, stronger, faster, heavier, taller,

I adapted a pokemon card game I used last year for superlatives in middle school. I have attached the amended introduction I made. You can dowload the sheets of cards here http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,81651.0.html. I made 6 sets and stuck them to quite sturdy card. It took a long time, 3 hours from memory, but it didn't bother me too much as I was sat at home in front of the TV. It went down well anyway.

Edit - P.S. To clarify, it's just a game of 'top trumps.'

Regards,

Ian
