TEAM Apples to Apples
« on: July 02, 2015, 01:27:33 PM »
I love the game Apples to Apples (playing with after school classes and during camps has always been a highlight), but always have a difficult time playing it with my regular classes. I thought I would try and team students up into groups of three and play as a whole class or split the class with a co-teacher (or student-teacher).

I plan to show the whole class an adjective on the board (from the PPT) and have them think of and write their best answer in 20 seconds or less. After the time is up, the judge will award a gold/silver/bronze medal to the top 3 answers. The top 3 answers will be scored accordingly (3pts/2pts/1pt). After 24 rounds, we will tally up the winners.
This paper has blanks for the NOUN/ADJECTIVE and the winning answer.

THANK YOU for this! It's a great way to do an Apples to Apples game without buying/making a bunch of cards.

I'm definitely going to add this into my summer camp. I think the kids will enjoy it  ;D

I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I just used this for my 1st grade middle school class and they really enjoyed it! It was a little iffy at first, but went really smoothly as they got the hang of it. Thanks for creating/sharing!

This is a really smart way to play apples to apples. The timer animation is also creative and a good way to keep track of time. I really like how you set up the game.

Anyone used this activity in their classes? I've got a question about how you go about collecting the answers / scoring.

In the original game, the red cards are given to the judge in secret. In this team version, how do you ensure that it's not obvious which team gave which answer (using white boards etc...) so that the judge can't just pick an answer because their best mate wrote it, or because it's their team's answer?
