This is a thread for any lesson material for Judy Yin (전재교육 2015 edition) Middle School English 3 Lesson 7: Treasures for all Koreans. Please share your contributions here. This is not much, but this is what I have so far for lesson 7. The PPT only has 3 slides but includes a YouTube video on what people prefer.

Here's my lesson. Decided to kick my quiet 3 graders into gear with lots of mandatory speaking games.

Warm-UP: Anagrams

Practice: Model questions with the co-teacher asking about their preferences (allow them to ask me as well) & Repeat as a class.

Practice: Criss-Cross game. Students stand up and can sit down by making a question or answering the question. Then they choose students to sit down with them. Part A & B in the book.

Production: Whispers (aka Telephone). I have 24 students, so I make 3 groups of 8 (2 groups of 4 play together). They line up their chairs and sit down (helps prevent cheating and chaos). Then the 1st student in line comes to me and a whisper the sentence to them. Once it reaches the end of line, the last student goes to my co-teacher and ask her the question. Once they get the answer, they go back to their line and whisper it back up to me.

Great practice, but if your class is usually noisy and chaotic, then chances are, they will be with this too. So far it's been going great, but I remember playing it last year with my grade 2s and it being a bit of a chaotic mess.

Here's what I created for the Speak out pages for Listen and Speak 1 &2. I took amreeves post and added the speak out portion for L&S2 and described the bingo game from the book. Hopefully that fills my class. If not I've got the whispers game from amreeves.

Warm-Up: Word Unscramble. All words come from the Unit 7 vocab list that my students are tested on in my co-teacher's class.

Practice:: Review last week. Go over the key expressions. Give an example using King Sejong. Since I thought this language was particularly awkward, I told students you typically hear it during speeches and meetings. Had a co-teacher help check for understanding, and skipped it all together with my lower-level classes.

  Quiz guessing game. Got the idea from the "conversation" page. Was originally gonna adapt this into the production activity, but I was too busy and my kids were doing great with the run & write. Basically I give them a hint about a famous person/ place. Each team gets 1 guess and 1 guess only. The less hints they use to guess, the more points they get.


Production: Run & Write. Great for practicing all 4 skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I play with my groups of 4, but can be done in pairs or what suits your needs. I made my own script, so there may be some typos.

Writing workshop "Expensive Art" activity

Borrowed the ppt and idea from another waygookian, edited it and updated the paintings. We needed another activity to accompany the writing workshop section, since we usually blow right thru all the writing tasks.

We gave 1 handout to each group and had them guess the order of the paintings, from most expensive to least expensive. I also had them guess how much the most expensive painting was, and why they think it was worth so much.

Here is one I patched together from posters here and also a friend who helped create more slides. Thanks Jackie.
Go through activity A/B as usual.
Do activity C with the class, call out on a few as you demonstrate.
Random number generator call on the pairs after theyve finished practicing.
Then do the trivia game in teams of six. If one team can't guess it even after the fourth clue, let the next team do it for 1pt. If you've got time left over, let them create their own three sentences and have the class guess. Volunteer sharer gets point and person who guesses right gets point. If you make it mandatory to kill even more time, give everyone a sheet to draw person or thing and lines to write out sentences.

L1- Which do you prefer...

A level:

1.  I started the class asking how their Chuseok was, and which do they prefer, Chuseok or 설날 ("solnar").  And I got them to answer in a full sentence. And then I went through the intro ppt, and I made them make the questions and give answers in full sentences.

2. In groups of five, I gave them a handout with a series of questions. The first student would read a question. The second students answers that question and then asks the next student a question. I timed them with a stopwatch. Teams got competitive.

3. Surveying the class. They made up a question and asked as many people in the class that question. See handout.


B Level:

1. Similar intro as A class.

2. Speed reading challenge. Same as A.

3. I actually used the activity from the book, which is the first time I did this. Students interviewed each other about their dream house and drew it. I actually like this better than the A level surveys.

4. Vocab review bingo. The cards had words and they drew pictures from my bag.

Hey all! So my kids are about to take their midterms and since the other grade levels for this book did a bomb game for review, I figured I'd be consistent and do one with my grade 3's. The questions are for chapters 6, 7, and a bit of 8 but you can edit it to your liking. I have all middle school boys so I tried to make the questions a little silly to keep them entertained.. Anyway, enjoy!

I made a pretty basic preference bingo game for L&S 2. It has worked well so far and takes up about 10-15 minutes.
First, students circle which they prefer between the two choices in each box. Then play bingo with all the options. Once you want to finish after so many winners, I had students write down five comparisons and gave them stamps when they finished for an added incentive after reading their answers to me.
