2015 Christian H Kim Grade 3 Lesson 1
« on: February 27, 2015, 02:02:26 PM »
Here are two PPTS I made for listening and speaking for the new grade 3 textbook Lesson 1: Forever Friends. It's extremely basic - but I'll use it as a guideline.

Here's a ppt I created for Ch 1 of the 3rd grade 2013 addition "Forever Friends".

I teach 2-3 lessons per chapter so this one focuses on acronyms and the key expression "can you explain more". I'm ending the lesson with having the students create "FYIs" for the new 1st graders about middle school.

Feel free to use anything/everything you'd like, but just make sure to edit...I'm in one of the slides and i include a warm-up to start every class.

Hope this helps!

Just wanted to say thanks tjoets!  My school still hasn't gotten the DVD/CD for this textbook yet, so I'll be using a modified version of your lesson.  Much appreciated!

Pleasure, sojuadventurer.

I spent quite a bit of time making activities for ALL Listening and Speaking and Speak Up sections in grade 1,2 and 3 textbooks. It has all the dialogues typed out with some kind of activity or question about the passage.  Enjoy ~

Does anyone have any material for the Middle School, Christian H. Kim book: English 3 (2013)? Can we start a thread for it, because I have no idea how to do that.
Thanks in advance

ps.
I've noticed some of you have added material for lesson 1, Forever Friends. That's great. Can we, somehow... put them all together under their own heading....or something like that.

pps.
I've added my own material for lesson 1, Forever Friends.
Please note: I broke the lesson into two elements (one for each week) so the kids can digest the material a little easier.
I use the PPTs as an introduction to the bookwork. I try to get them to practice speaking with them, and to try to keep them short.
I've also added a pair of simple games to keep them talking.
Hope they're useful to somebody.

So this is my take on the lesson for Grade 3 Chapter 1.

The first half of the ppt is my introduction and class expectations (also I briefly go over my point/award system). You obviously can take this out, or change it for your own specifications.

I also attached the worksheet that students must complete as they follow along with the lesson!

Hope this helps some of you guys!

Hi all,

I have almost 3 weeks per chapter, with two lessons a week (32 students in the class). It's a bit much for most people, but you can take what you like! Also, my students have a hard time remembering, so it might be repetitive if you have more advanced students.

3-1.1
warm-up - It's about - using shakespeare + pictures to elicit responses - battleship game (these instructions work pretty well for me if you circle around and double check with everyone - worksheet sep ppt)

3-1.2
warm up - It's about (elicit using TV programs) - listening exercise from book - mingling bingo (students need to ask others whats it about and receive a WRITTEN FULL SENTENCE with other persons name) (board is PDF)

3-1.3
Can you explain what it means? - using slang game (pick a word and guess the meaning, divide into teams - this is NE USA slang, so feel free to sub for ones you know! they might be gibberish to you)

3-1.4
listening exercise from text - balderdash game with explanation (basically, show the first slide and have each group write a guess at what it means, have all the groups vote and give points accordingly)-  small group balderdash(cards at the end for them to play themselves if you get that far - my kids didnt get past the team round -_-)

3-1.5
Just a review game with an idiom intro. It's from another poster, but I edited a bit to tailor it more to lower level students.

This was my first middle school lesson so I was really thankful for the resources posted above! I thought it only fair to upload my version.

I had two periods per lesson, so I did the textbook-based work in the first period and did a related group work activity in the second. The TXT SPK activity was a big hit once students got the hang of it.

HIGHER LEVEL materials for the speaking and listening portions of lesson 1.
(This lesson has a part devoted to idioms, the lower level version does not.)
