Land Rush Bomb Game

***EDIT: I have removed this material. I had uploaded it with the understanding that it was being provided as a free service to my fellow teachers here, but the site admin has decided to lock it behind a paywall. I object to that quite strongly, and will be removing all of my content as a result. I will update this post with more information when I find somewhere new to host it for free.***

Hey, All.

I really like that Block Busters ppt game that's floating around, so I decided to make one with essentially the same gameplay, but a different theme.  I tried to make it look like one of those board games with land pieces.

The goal is to make it across the island, either horizontally (blue team) or vertically (red team).

Click a tile to go to the question screen.

Click the Question box to make the Answer box appear.

Click X or O to return to the ABC tile screen

Red and Blue choices will appear. Click the one corresponding to the team whose turn it is, and a colored hexagon will replace the letter tile.

Teams keep taking turns until one of them has formed an unbroken chain of tiles from one side to the other.

Ideally, students will try to block eachother's chains and use some semblance of strategy. Because there are no point values assigned to the different tiles like in other games, this template can be reused without fear of students memorizing which tiles are worth how much.

Hopefully this works alright on all versions of Powerpoint. It works fine on my home computer with Powerpoint 2013, so fingers crossed it'll work on older versions, too.

Enjoy!

This looks like a great game! My students will have a hard time understanding the rules, I'm just going to declare the team that has the most colored boxes the winner.

That's certainly another way to do it.

For what it's worth, I played a different PPT with essentially the same rules with students as young as elementary 4th grade, and they all seemed to understand well enough.

I took your concept and made it into a board game. Worked great so far for 5th and 6th graders  :)

Here's an example...

Thanks!
