Hi thanks for the lesson's ppt for Do you want some more...can't open the Intro ppt and powerpoint ppt for some reason...can you convert it to a more generic version by any chance?  Noticed that it's on as a pptx and not ppt doc so maybe that's why...It would be great thanks!

Somebody posted this PPT template for another grade and I simply modified it to fit this lesson for "Do you want some more?" It's an unscrambling game designed with vocabulary words and key sentences from Lesson 10!

I can't seem to find many materials for this lesson.  So here's another crossword and a Pass the Paper game.  My co-teacher also requested a PPT with more foods and 'real' pictures.

I also plan on doing Genki English's conversation game.  Using a stop watch, time the students doing 4 conversations.  For ex:
"Hello."
"Hello."
"Do you want some more pizza?"
"Yes, please.  Do you want some more ice cream?"
"No, thanks."
"Bye."
"Bye."

They repeat this with 3 other people.  They sit down when finished.  When all the students are seated, stop the clock.  Then, do another round to try for a faster time.

Edit - The Genki English conversation game was ok.  We put the times on the board and gave the fastest class a reward.  The lower level students didn't care much about this game, so I won't be playing it again.

2011 Edit - Here's a card game that worked really well last year.  Each student gets 4 cards of the same thing; a knife, fork, spoon, or chopsticks. The goal is to get one of each card. They walk around the class asking:
"Do you want/need a ~?"
The response is "Yes, please" if they need that card.  or "No, thanks" if they already have that card.
As a last resort they can ask the teacher for a specific card, "I need a ~."

The only problem is it takes a lot of work to make the cards, at least for me. I made 35 of each, laminated them and cut them out.

Here is a "Do you want some more" review.  When the food comes up the student should ask, "Do you want some more ____?  Then the thumbs up or down will come up and they answer, "yes, please," or "no, thank you."

Activity idea --> Pictionary variation to be played in teams with points awarded.

(S = student / Ss = students / T = teacher)

- 1 S to draw a smiley  :) OR frowning face  :( and one item of food on the board. Food item is given to the S by the T.
- Other Ss to guess what it is.
- 1st S to correctly guess and say the proper question and answer gets one point. "Do you want some more apples? Yes, please."
- All Ss to repeat.

I think this would work well with ordinary foods at the start, then slowly give more and more crazy items as time goes by (and the Ss get bored). For example, if the S was to draw a UFO, the class would love the absurdity of this (Do you want some more UFO?).

Some ideas that work well - UFO, Shark burger, Monkey, Smelly socks... enjoy!

Thanks kickerjean.  I added some text and a few different pictures to yours. :)

Also, here are some worksheets I used last year.  Some are from mediafire.  The others are from icnelly: http://www.esnips.com/web/GEPIK-5thgrade/

I've adjusted a previously posted ppt to fit my needs.

The first few slides are to make the co-teacher happy with pronunciation practice aka - repeat after me. Following that I do Say it to Sit having ALL students stand, and raise their hand to say a word - no sitting down until they've correctly said a word.

I think the other slides are fairly self-explanatory.

Here's a little matching game I made for my class.  I'm using the sentences "Do you want some more _____?" "I can use chopsticks," and "Do you want a (fork/spoon)?" for the speaking points.  I also attached the matching game template (it may be a little easier to work with) if anybody wants to make their own game.  Enjoy.

9/13--I uploaded a fixed version of the template.

I took the scramble and added my own twist. you can use this as a template for every lesson and it gets the kids screaming and having fun. I do it as a parnter game. Its really simple. Just put each word in the sentence in its own text... bubble thing... (yea, i know, really tech savvy terms here.) then select all of them. now ad the flash that makes them come up from the bottom of the screen, then drag all of them up above the slide. Vuala. you have a flash scramble game.

I do it as a parnter game. The kids watch the screen and i make the words flash across. once at first, then faster and faster (after you make it flash once, hit the up button to prep it, then down again to make it flash again)... as soon as one of the partners makes out what the sentence is, they slap the desk and say it to their partner. Then I reveal the actual sentence. Whoever said the correct sentence first between the partners gets a point. the students with highest point after the game (i.e. the students that beat their partners the most) get candy.

The last lesson, Whose boat, was about possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns, words which are used with nouns to indicate "who" owns them.  This lesson is about using words with nouns to indicate quantity.  You can express that in a number of ways, but the concept can be useful for organization.  Here are a few videos to spice up the lesson.

You should download Open Office. It's freeware and it'll open up some of the files that MSOffice won't.

This may be a really dumb question, but i love the Matching game, but can't seem to get the template to work - ie you can turn over 2 images, but then they won't turn back?? Would love to use this in my class if i could get it working :)
