Weird stuff you have found in your classroom
« on: February 05, 2016, 10:07:31 am »
Every year, during desk warming season and graduation, I usually clean out the rooms really well, throwing away stuff I never use, old books, etc.  It also gives me a better idea of what supplies I need for the next year or things I have access to and organize.  Yes, I get my CT's permission.

Have you ever done that or just rummaged around your classroom?

If so, what have you found that interested you?

For me, I found an empty vitamin-C bottle, books dating to 2007, some clothes, in one school dating back to the 1990s, and huge roll of aluminum foil.

Not my classroom:

In the class where we did English camp, I found steel cups behind the TV filled with rotting ramen and rice water...

I didn't look again, I ignored it, clearly wasn't my kids who did that as they weren't allowed to eat or drink in the classroom.

Also I have found used toilet paper on the floor of the classroom before, once again, not the English classroom - but WTF right?

I once found a pencil. I didn't know they existed in the English classroom.

Last year at my elementary school I found a 2,000,000KRW hand-held learning program thing for English.  Never opened.  I'm assuming they bought it because they had budget to blow, but c'mon.  It was something only one student could use at a time, and would have no practical application in class.  Pissing money away.

There were also some English materials I found that were developed by the Boseong country, before they started buying official textbooks.  One of the lesson plans was this monster game where the monsters had different names, heights, weights, backgrounds, hobbies, and countries of origin.

There was one from Russia called the Vodka Monster, no joke.  The picture of it is him drunkenly pouring bottles of vodka into a funnel on his head, looking wasted, and its hobby is listed as "drinking vodka"

Not very obscure, but a total waste...

I noticed a bunch of cabes in a drawer, looked behind a fake wall storage closet..

Full on Stereo Mics (wireless) With separate receivers, a auxiliary stereo, and a mixer board...

I always wondered why there were surround sound high quality speakers and a sub mounted in the corners of the classroom...

Must have been at least $3.4k + of audio equipment just collecting dust...

I think I also have something like that. A KMIT 크림북 (CreamBook). Looks like the attached picture, character case included. Just the one. Probably never used.

I've also found a Samsung TV Accessory Kit for my classroom monitor that includes three pairs of polarized 3D glasses. I've never remembered to download a 3D movie to see if I could get it to work.

Ahem, that aside, the activity sounds miles ahead of the cruft the textbooks offer up now.

At my old job, I found a book called "Randall the Red-Butt Reindeer". ^_^  Took a pic, but misplaced it.

Our school had a staffroom for non homeroom teachers. The English teachers, a PE teacher and a science teacher were there. Then the school decided to convert it into a small classroom or something and moved us individually to different homeroom teacher staffrooms.

Therefore there was a big clear out needed. Behind a big cupboard we found a half empty bottle of North Korean alcohol, the kind that can be bought at the DMZ or on those Mt Kumgang tours. This was 2013 and the tours banned for quite some time, so goodness knows how long it had been there.
