Made a fun Power point presentation
« on: March 08, 2016, 10:56:52 am »
I have been working for a little while on a power point game, and its now ready for beta release. I hope you enjoy it and please any suggestions you might have would be awesome.

You can check it out on this website. Loaing time might be a bit slow, its hosted on my private server currently.

http://dadz.ml

Here is a download of the program. It will cut the loading time of the main board to under 4 seconds.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/fgldmf

How to use

1> Extract the .rar file to a new folder anywhere you like
2>inside the folder is a file called Play Game.html click it to run the game

You will be able to use it on any computer that has a web browser. You will not need to be connected to the internet But I use the built in browser to run the presentation.

I am afraid that the original PowerPoint would be useless to you. The presentation on its own does not work. It needs to be compiled using a separate program. Power Point by default does not allow you to place a full presentation onto a single slide. If you want all the individual components I could do that, but it would take to a large number of windows to run it.

I am actually a programmer and was making some games for a live broadcast, and decided to turn my collection of game slides into a full fledged game.

http://www.twitch.tv/geekexchange/manager/v52359240/highlight

Eventually there will be a fully fledged 2 player version of the live stream available

Currently working on video clips for all the choices on each box so it will seem like there is a live host there all the time.
I am also working on a series of themed boards. And a couple of other styled games.
Also a score system.
and a better 3d dice to match the one from the stream.
Volume mute for menus

They should all be in the version 2 release.

This is really fascinating! I like it a lot. What programming language is this, anyway?

I think I can most definitely incorporate this into a brick and mortar class. Thanks so much for the contribution!

Appreciate it!

Am I the only one who saw "geek/sex/change.ca" instead of "geeks/exchange.ca" the first time it flashed on the screen?   :lipsrsealed:

It is created 90% in PowerPoint. Once each section is complete its compiled into HTML 5 / Java.

There is 5 separate PowerPoint presentations

Main boards x2
bonus board
rolling wheels (both are on a single presentation. They will be split in version 2 for better placement options)

and
The final game (credits / Instructions / +4 compiled presentations)

Each sections is saved by themselves and compiled. The compiled presentations are injected into a slide of the final game.

I then take the whole presentation including all the forced injections and recompile the whole thing as a self running HTML / Java program.

I have add the original .pptx for you to download and check out at

https://www.sendspace.com/file/ogrhu9

If you try and run it via PowerPoint page 5 will show up as blank. It still needs to be compiled before it can be used. However in PowerPoint you can still see the outlines of the injected presentations layout on page 5, they are just not usable until after it has been compiled.

Placement is a pain in the butt you need to compile it each time to check the placement of the injections to make sure they don't overlap.

* Pro tip the loading screens don't actually do anything they are just PowerPoint sides designed to look like loading screens click the screen to skip the loading screen :) *

Golden tickets will be changed in a latter version as well, they will eventually lead to a jeopardy style board where you can answer questions for bonus points.

You seeing a different name in our website title is exactly why it is called what it is :)  Its a fun name that makes people double check what they have just read :)

I don't know..some people obviously have too much free time.  Good luck!

I guess, I just think a simple powerpoint is fine and works wonders.  I spent about 10 minutes simply looking at the name of some website geeksexchange blah, blah, blah.

Can't we just teach the kids rather than make these things?

Honest feedback warning:

It's a PPT that you can't edit to match your lesson, hosted on a slow server (waited 30 seconds for the thing to load). Even if the server was fast you'd be sitting there wasting classroom time with those long transitions. There's sound you can't turn off, and a confusing array of 4 boxes for the main screen. And that's nothing to say of the questionable educational value of PPT games in general.

I am a computer programmer so pushing programs to their limit is what I do. The ads are there because I own the website refereed to. Once I have a more stable version there will be additional themed boards on my website available to use. Additionally the ads are there because I am allowing everyone to use it 100% free. There is over 100 hours of time on this project already, and I expect to put in a few hundred more hours before its done.

Additionally you would load it before the students arrived.

If you got to a grey page give it a few minuets to load 4 boards will appear. Its on my private building server so it might be a bit slow to load.

Also the opening credits can be skipped by pressing the orange Yin and Yang symbol on the right side of the first screen.

I have also heard your complaint about the music and will add a mute button in version 2

Again the orange yin and yang symbol on the very first page will allow you to skip all the opening credits. It will skip you to the start page.
