Hey guys, I hope everything is going well with your classes. My students are having their midterms right now and I'm looking to play a game with them as an after-exam treat. I'm having a little trouble finding games that can take up the whole class and that it isn't bomb-based. I don't mind bomb-based games but I need a game that can be adapted to lower levels. Any ideas?
Molany,Jeopardy is always a great game...that are lots on here to choose from! Thanks for adding one!For those of you who don't want/can't purchase whiteboards, here are a couple of options...1. Use those plastic holders in binders you see everywhere and put a blank piece of paper in there... you can also put blank forms in there like the scattergories one for students to fill in.2. Laminate a piece of paper...I use coloured paper and put a team name on it with some stickers on it or something...you can use these over and over again!Another game I like to play to practice vocabulary is the fly swatter game. I haven't tried it with my large classes...only my small ones. I scatter the vocabulary words all over the board. Put the students into 2 teams and give the first one on each team a flyswatter. Say the word and the first student to hit the right words earns a point for their team. This game has never failed to please!Sonya
This is a demo-class I gave several years ago entitiled...Help my class is over and I still have 10 minutes left! There are games that you can just play for 10 minutes and games that can last the whole class if you want. Some of them I made into powerpoints but you don't need to do it as a powerpoint... for example Gimme 5 is a powerpoint but if you print out the Gimme 5 list you can just use that insteadSonya
Hi there, Just wanted to throw a quick game idea out there that another teacher taught me. This game is called "Don't Hit the Teacher." You'll need a ball with suction cups that sticks to the whiteboard. Here's how it works...Stand in front of the white board and draw concentric circles around yourself. The farther away from you, the less points. Closer to you, more points. Let them know that if the ball hits you, it's minus a lot of points. Have them line up at a long enough distance that they're throwing accuracy is going to be a little bit compromised. Have some sort of material ready to quiz them on and one by one, give them a question related to whatever you've been studying. If they get it right, they get one throw. Some students are going to want to get a lot of points. Some students are going to hit you by accident. Some of them are going to hit you on purpose. Either way it's going to be funny, and they're going to laugh a lot when you cover your face/groin with a book in anticipation of their throw. This is a great way to burn some time and get some review in as well.
The Don't hit the teacher games sounds like it will be a sucess!! Im going to try it for review
