New Pokemon Game
« on: April 06, 2016, 01:35:07 pm »

You'll need the pokemon font from here - make everything look much better.

http://www.fontspace.com/jackster-productions/pokemon-gb

I'd been using the older pokemon powerpoint made by Kyle lLudeke, but I'd been itching for something a little more interactive, so I threw this together.

It's a fairly standard bomb game format, except it's a little more linear. Teams will have to progress past ABCDE in order to get to FGHIJ, etc. There's a small blank picture square in the question box so you can just use the 'change picture' command and preserve the animations.

--==[ UPDATE 5/18/2016 ]==--

I've gone back and changed some aspects of the game - there is now a cave and coast section, and more importantly, there is an end-game 'Versus' mode where the teams can fight one another (use at your own discretion) Also, this game won't run on powerpoint 2007. Well, it will RUN, but half the things that should work don't. If you don't have any other options, you can download the official Microsoft Powerpoint Viwer for free here -

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13

which runs it just fine.

--==[ UPDATE 5/19/2016 ]==--

Made a few small tweaks, changed one more map, changed some of the final attacks, and added an aquatic version of Team Rocket so you can change the location easier on the last map.

Interesting idea to use a DS screen..
Have you checked out my Pokemon  game? It's nothing crazy, but it's bright and colourful!

Great looking game. Quick question though, are the pokeballs supposed to open? I can see pictures pokemon on the slide previews but none seem to appear in game

The teams choose one of the three pokeballs, you just have to click on them to open them.

Afraid I don't know why. Possibly something to do with the layout order - maybe try bringing the pokeballs to the front?

Alright, after some extensive testing (me running it in a few classes) older versions of powerpoint just do not like to cooperate with the way that I've arranged the order of objects. If you're using a more recent version of powerpoint it should be fine, but otherwise, you might want to go download the windows powerpoint viewer, which runs the game just fine.

I've updated the game! Check out the new version - I've added a few different areas to explore, and added a post-game 'arena' mode where the teams compete directly against one another.

I downloaded this two days ago and finally got to use it for my class and the kids went crazy! They loved it. Their favorite parts were the Team Rocket scenes. Thank you so much for making this game! I'll be using it again after this because it was such a big hit. The only thing that went wrong, and it was completely my fault, is that I forgot you had to click on voltorb again after his pokeball opens because he self-destructs. I'll definitely remember next time, though. Awesome work!

Can you explain how to use the "post-game 'arena' mode"?

By the end of the game, each of the teams should have plenty of points (assuming they didn't find too many voltorbs) - I let the team with the MOST points choose a pokemon first. There are 2 attacks, and 1 hyper potion option (I don't really have a rule for the 'block' option, but you can make something up if you want). The team can choose to either attack another team by paying some of their points (for example, hyper beam costs 3 points, but deals 5 points of damage), or use a hyper potion to just GET 5 points for free. The team with the next highest amount of points goes second, etc, etc.

Basically, the teams each get a chance to 'attack' another team or heal themself, with the team with the LEAST amount of points going last.

This is amazing work and I plan to use this asap.

Just a suggestion, if you had spare time. I don't have the skills to do it but you seem like you do. I wanted to put together a game like the last battle segment but instead have three teams each with a starter pokemon with slightly different HP. There would be a question phase and an attack phase. Answering questions would give xp or points. attack phase teams get to use abilities on each other to lower xp of other teams. Maybe add in a chance to swap xp point to evolve which in turn multiples damage.

I added an attachment of a game (credit to the creator) that has similar structure to my example but is war themed instead of pokemon. If you can find a way to adapt it that would be awesome
