Useful website for kids
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:34:18 am »

www.starfall.com

I find it very interesting and helpful when I teach the kids though it doesn't require any sign-up, which is the best part.
You can use it to teach from alphabets to basic reading.

Anyway, I wish it would be helpful to someone here. ;)

Thanks! I teach a 20minute phonics class in the morning before class starts and this site is perfect for the students. It's way more fun and interactive for the kids. :)

This site is great. I tried reading books to my elementary classes but it got too difficult for everyone to see the pictures/read along. This way, I can show the book on the screen and call on students to read the next paragraphs! Thanks for this website.

I love using Starfall!

Here are flashcards I made with the vocabulary from the "Learn to Read" section.  http://www.starfall.com/n/level-a/learn-to-read/load.htm?f

It includes the _AN through _UG words.  The flashcards have line drawings so you only use a minimal amount of ink to print.  Fold the paper in half so the word is on one side and the picture is on the other.

I do phonics with my Kindergartners using Starfall.com.  We focus on one letter and two vocab words per lesson.

I'm attaching a Word file with flashcards I made.  Each page has a color clip art picture and the vocab word written below it.  There are two vocab words for every letter:

ant, apple, baby, banana, cup cat, dinner, dog, elephant, eggs, fish, fingers, girl, go horse, heart, insects, igloo, jump, juice, kick kitchen, lock, lips, monkey, moon, nose, nine, ostrich, on/off, pig, puppy, question, quilt, rainbow, rose, skateboard, sunglasses, train, ten, up, umbrella, violin, van, walk, window, box, six, yawn, yellow, zebra, zoo

All of the vocabulary came from Starfall's ABC section (either from the part where you click on individual letters or from the ABC song).  I printed and laminated the flashcards.

Also, as a side note, my Kindergartners wanted me to click on the hand icons in the Starfall ABC section one day, so we did and started to learn American Sign Language.  They seem to really like it.
