Crater Face Prediction Activity
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:11:36 pm »
Here is a small activity I made around the Crater Face video.

The idea is to give the handout to students before they've seen the video, and ask them to predict what will happen based on the screen shots. The shots are designed to be pretty ambiguous, so students have come up with very creative and varied ideas for the story. Have students write the dialogue or some other description of what they think is going on.  I tend to have students discuss in small groups and decide on their story together, though this could also be done individually.

After students have finished, they can share their stories with the class, and finally you can all watch the video together to find out what really happened.

Here is the address of the video on Youtube:

I hope someone will find this useful!

This is intresting, how exactly did you make it last 50 minutes?

Did you use any type of ice breakers?

Oh yah, it's not a 50 minute activity. I've used it in addition to another activity, or in a period where we didn't have the full 50 minutes. You can include a short prediction activity before hand in order to prime students for predicting.making up stories, possibly with a photo, and have students predict what has happened or what will happen.

It does take some time for students to create their stories and share them with others, but the activity has never taken a full 50 minutes for me. I've got some particularly proficient students, so I'm assuming this would take more time with lower level students.

Thanks for your interest. If you have any suggestions or alterations please post them here!

Cheers.
