~ Turkey Attack ~
« on: November 16, 2010, 02:39:46 PM »
Here's a few things to make a relaxed Thanksgiving lesson out of.
I'm a Brit, so I've only ever celebrated this vicariously before.
If there're any historical mistakes or otherwise, please do let me know  :blank:

Greetings

Turkey Attack - PPT

I've embedded fonts again.
If it hasn't worked for you, the Thanksgiving font can be downloaded here:

It's the sixth one down and is just called Thanksgiving.

Hope this works well for you guys.

Hey! Everything looks really great! I'm just a little confused about the rules for the game - what does it mean when a team is in reverse?

I have 6 teams of 6 or more students in each class.
I normally go a certain direction, say from team 1 ending at team 6.
Reverse just means the direction.
If it was team 3 answering the question and team 4 was next, then it would now be team 2's turn.

I hope that makes sense.

You're the man, Dan. I love your style. What else have you done besides this and the World Quiz?

Hey GreenFloyd.

Nothing too exciting I'm afraid.
Only recently got into posting on waygook.

Glad you like it though.

Here's an adapted version of your piece vitamin, thanks a bunch!  If there is any videos out there I think it would accompany the lesson very well. I would love to find The Simpsons or The Peanuts with Korean subtitles on Thanksgiving... The last slide has a few links.

Just a comment on the updated version --

On slide 16, George Bush to illustrate "Turkey - an inept person."  People who have done similar political criticisms during their lessons have posted on here saying that they were not very well received by their co-teachers.

Just something to keep in mind.  You can always replace him with Homer Simpson, and the kids would probably connect to that more anyway.  Ultimately it *is* up to you, though.

Here's another adapted version, with more info on the Macy's parade as well as a couple of youtube videos. I also made the font a little easier to read. Thanks so much for the great lesson!

I don't know why that is Jwoon.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey Vitamin,

this is an awesome lesson and i am planning on using it next week. but i am having some trouble figuring out the game. two questions.

1. when you click an answer and it goes to the attack or minus 10% or whatever, how do you get back to the  main question page (the one with the little red tacks).

2. what do you mean single, double, triple?

thanks. again, great lesson.

I figured it out...the background covers up the questions.  Just move or get rid of the backgound and you'll be fine.

Hey vitamin-d, I have adapted your version of Turkey attack to make it easier for my class, include open-ended questions, and also remove all the fonts since it was giving my computers a real headache. They wouldn't recognize the downloaded fonts no matter how hard I tried. Maybe other people will find this helpful.

Here it is:

Good lesson thanks.

I adapted this by getting a listening gap fill exercise from eslholidaylessons.com, it's good practice for the kids, it give's your voice a rest and it kills some time.... always a winner.
