Scripts I have done in Class with clips from movies
« on: December 14, 2011, 09:36:12 am »
These are easy lessons and a way to get the kids out of their seats.  This script is from The Road to El Dorado.  This one went over very well.  I have attached the script I used with the kids.  The best way to go about it (since I taught this lesson 10 times in one week)  Is to pass out the scripts to everyone.  Explain you will watch the clip then be put in groups.  Start the clip (this clip is the first actualy dialogue from this movie and you can just find it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj4YTFqV-Ts Loudly announce when the script is going to start.  They will follow along and watch it.  I usually show it one more time.  Just so they can see the dramatization that goes on in it and not just read along.  Then i make them stand up in a long line and I break them up into groups.  it actually worked better for me if they were with their friends as your kids might be shy about performing in front of class.  My students at this point were use to me making them perform so they were much mroe comfortable.  Break them into groups of three (this is because two ofthe parts in the script are very small so make somone be two people)  Tell them to go find an area and practice in the room.  Tell them the team that does the best (most dramatization, acting, speaking skills) will get rewarded.  My students have stickers they win to put on their name cards.  When they get 10 they can get candy from my candy jar.   Interupt them at some point and show them props they must use.  For this one I made a fake map, had two wads of paper they used as dice, and got a chair and told them it was to be the horse Altivo.  Then draw numbers of what team performs first.  My kids had a great time with it and laughed the whole time.

Here is another lesson, that I did exactly as above with El Dorado.  This one is from the movie Transformers.  i just downloaded it off the internet and transfered it to my school computer.  The props I used were box (the cube).  I told the kids whoever played one of the Autobots had to stand on two chairs to be really tall.  I do not remember exactly what time the clip is from but I it toward the end in the final fighting scenes.  Also this works well if the students finish early you canalways just pick up the movie where it left off and they get to watch 5-10 more min of it untill the bell rings.  Again you have to be creative when breaking them into groups.  I had to make the person with the best English be Captain Lennox and sometimes people can play two parts, that can actually get pretty fun.
