anyone familiar with the TEPS test?
« on: January 10, 2012, 02:58:38 pm »
Hey all, my Hagwon has, in typical hagwon fashion, thrown me unprepared into a TEPS preperation class. The students are fairly advanced.... (I barely have to grade my language or speak slowly at all.) However, the textbook is 90% in Korean. I'd like to actually  help them acquire good test taking strategies, not just flounder about randomly in the dark.  Does anyone out there have any experience prepping kids for this test? I'd love to learn more about it, because right now I"m honestly clueless as to the test composition, expected vocab, question types, etc....

Hey, as far as I know, it is kind of test of English Proficiency developed in Korea, Seoul National University. It includes 4 sections; listening, grammar, vocabulary, and reading compresion. You may find many TEPS books at a bookstore.  Take a look at it.  If there's a good topic or content to talk about, take time to deal with it. I don't like tests. I mean, no unnecessary testing. There are too many tests in Korea and they hurt language learners in every single way. Some say students take tests because they need to know how thery are doing. Let them know what they want to know from the test. - Test hater-
