~ The Solar Quizdom ~
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:45:40 PM »
Right, this is about as good as my PPT skills get.
Please find included everything you need for an interactive lesson on the Solar System

The worksheet is quite integral to knowing the answers for the quiz.
It's up to you whether you allow the students to keep their worksheet or collect them.

I hope you and your students find this as fun to play as I have to make.
This will probably be my last contribution to Waygook for a while, as I'm off   8)

If you want to edit the PPT you will need to install the attached font.
All feedback, comments, praise, confusion, welcome...

- also, in the PPT click on the name of the planet to reveal the answer...

Dan this is absolutely fantastic! Huge congrats to you for mastering your ppt skills!

One question - how can I open a .ttf file? Here at my school computer it is going to a  notepad type program automatically, which isn't working out.

Shhowse, I copied the .ttf file into the fonts folder in Control Panel. This enabled me to save and edit the PowerPoint.
I'm not sure what will happen when I try it on the other computers, however.

And Dan. Just. Like. Wow. Very handsome. Very good. Thanks.

Oh, the .ttf file is the font? I see, that makes sense why it wouldn't open. Thanks!

Wow, amazing PPT. Thanks so much for this. I'm attaching a (much lamer) PPT that goes over the answers on the worksheet and listening comprehension handout for a space oriented They Might Be Giants song. Shouldn't take more than five minutes or so and is really fun. The link to the song is in the PPT. Also here:

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

@ shhowse, yes it's a font file and you'll need to drop it in the fonts folder in the control panel.
The PPT will work without it, it just won't be editable. Thanks for the praise.
@ jgads, thanks for that. I enjoyed the song!

Daaang.  I don't even have any plans to teach my students about the solar system.  I think I might try and wedge that in sometime, however, just so I can have an excuse to use this glorious powerpoint.  Very very kamsa :D

Oh, that will be helpful. I was wondering, did you base the quiz off of general knowledge, or did you preteach the answers to the quiz questions? Some of the questions I think my students may not know answers for, so in my case I will have to present some information before beginning the game.

Every question should be answered on the pre-game worksheet.
Let me know if you find any that aren't...

Ah, my mistake! I looked too quickly at the worksheet and missed the second page. Cheers!

Sorry to be a pest, but I have one more question. In the ppt, once a team answers a question, which symbol should I go to? Is it sun for incorrect answer and space ship/shuttle for correct? Or does the team just decide which they prefer? Thanks!

I'll probably start this lesson next week, so I'll post my comments then.

lol, not a pest at all. The sun is the countdown clock, don't click on that.
The explosion is negative and the ship is positive.

I'll be doing this lesson next week too.  ::)
