Video for motivation and/or the lesson. Ask students to describe what everyone looks like and what kind of person do they look like (guard, reporter, queen).

She's wearing a red cap.

"What's she wearing? She's-He's wearing (a)__________ red cap-blue dress-blue crown-orange socks-white shirt-black pants/Are you sure?/Yes, I am./Korean & American pronunciation of Hyundai"

I wrote this song last year for the Grade 5 book which was pretty similar.

The key question is "What does s/he look like?" and answering it.

Chords and words. You can add or change vocab, pretty simple song. The ALL CAPS part is like a Bridge section.

Some materials used in previous books some I changed vocabulary to fit this book, others I didn't think needed changing.

To comma or not to comma:

"He has short curly hair and big blue eyes."

It feels wrong to me that there's no commas in this sentence (i.e. "He has short, curly hair and big, blue eyes.").

Maybe this question is for the Americans, since I'm not one, but this book teaches American English.

We don't put a comma where there is "and." If it was three adjectives in conjunction, there would be a comma. For Example: "He has short curly hair, a round face and big blue eyes."

We don't put a comma where there is "and."

I'm not asking about the serial/Oxford comma.

I mean the comma between two adjectives followed by a noun in this sentence:

"He has short curly hair and big blue eyes."

OR

"He has short, curly hair and big, blue eyes."

I'm British and I think the comma is optional.

Nadinea - Yes, I made these myself from Lesson 1 - 7 for both 5th and 6th grade.  I used a template from a worksheet my previous co teacher used last year and just replaced all the info with whatever lesson I'm doing now.  My new co teacher prefers the ones I make over the ones she can download on the Korean website for materials.  So I'm using the exact same template for every lesson.  The only real work is typing out the dialogue and erasing and making the wordbox for the wordsearch.

I found a good reference: http://www.eds-resources.com/edrules.htm

"5. Use commas between coordinate adjectives (of equal importance) that modify the same noun. Do not separate adjectives of unequal importance. A good way to determine if the adjectives are of equal importance is to reverse them in the sentence. If the sentence does not read well after the reversal, do not use a comma between them. The second example below clearly illustrates this point. Reversing the adjectives (blue big eyes or red bright hair) simply doesn't work! "

I have an open class on this Lesson.  The second part.

I want to use some interactive activities that are not PPT/bombgame based.  Anyone have some fun activity ideas for this lesson that would fit nicely for an open class?

Many thanks!

Yes actually...

I have done this in the past with great success. It's an elimination type game that focuses on listening. With a little bit of detective work and a little bit simon says...kinda

So all the kids stand up and you pick one student as the "It guy or gal" and try not to reveal who it is by looking at them too much. Then you slowly eliminate students. All students say "What do they look like?" Teacher says, "They have... long straight hair." All students with short hair then sit down. You could use "What does it look like?" if they don't understand the universal "they" part or just give them a hint like "He is wearing white shorts."

Students get one chance each (3-5 guesses per teacher clue) to guess the "it guy" before there is only one student left. If they don't guess correctly then the 'it guy" wins.

An alternate I have used is more simon says style where teacher says, "He has an animal shirt." All boys with animals on shirts sit down. It's quite simple but students love these games when they can examine each other. You can also reverse the game by making them stand up... but only if you say simon says.

For example, "Simon says, he has curly hair." All curly hair people stand up. If teacher doesn't say Simon says and someone with curly hair stands up they are eliminated. It gets a bit technical but I have had high level students so I needed to make the games more complex to suit their tastes. Point is... lots of room for variation. Hopefully you understand my instructions.

Good luck. I have an open class coming soon. However mine is for my job evalutation for renewal......gulp....

I too have an open class for the speaking period of this lesson next week...
I was thinking about adapting the textbook game into a sort of "Guess Who" pair game with different faces (maybe celebrities?).  This is my first time preparing for an open class and I'm not certain if this is a good game idea and it might be difficult to adapt/produce effectively, any suggestions/advice are greatly appreciated!
