2015 Grade 6 Cheonjae 3 - 2. My Favorite Season Is Spring
« on: March 16, 2015, 03:57:49 PM »
Lesson 2-1
Here is an introduction lesson covering Key Words and Expressions in both English and Korean.
Also, a worksheet to go along with it for students to write vocabulary and key sentences.

Lesson 2-2
Disappearing dialogue for memorization practice. (from Look & Say)

Lesson 2-3
Star Writing Game. Students pick one word/sentence to write down per ppt slide. Then, you click each revealing the starts (points) underneath. Stars = points. Most points at the end wins.

Lesson 2-4
Reading Race Board Game. One student starts at A, the other at B. They RPS to see who goes first. They can use erasers as a game piece to keep track of their position. They alternate reading each box, and when they meet, they have to RPS. Winner keeps going, loser has to go back to start. The winner is whoever makes it all the way to the other side of the board.

Lesson 2-5
Role-playing. I made a script that is essentially the same as the one in Act Out. Students have to fill in the blanks with their own answers, and then present in groups of 3. I put each script in a plastic sleeve so students could write with dry erase markers and then I could reuse the script for multiple classes. =]

Lesson 2-6
Pokemon Bomb game for review. I put in a few questions from Lesson 1 as well. You can get the required fonts here: http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,22140.0.html

:D I am also starting this lesson with my 6th graders! Here's my PPT that I used for Lesson 1, with a short practice section at the end where they have to fill in the dialogue blanks and then tell me their favorite fruit/animal/etc.

(For the hidden pictures slides, I make them ask me both "What is your favorite _________?" and then they can answer with either their own favorite, or give a more specific answer based off the slide's picture.)

Hi everybody!

I am uploading my lessons, PPTs, worksheets etc. that I've made and collected for this lesson.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years, whether it was with PPTs, worksheets, or ideas. It has been very helpful to see what other teachers implement in their classrooms.

I have included some original PPTs, and I have modified some of the PPTs that other people have contributed to better fit my classroom. I've extracted most of the material in the PPTs that is specific to my school and my personal point system, but I've left a few nuggets in there that can be easily deleted if you want (There's a police officer that pops up occasionally to police grammar. My kids like to pretend as if they'll really be arrested for bad grammar. Silly I know, but I left a few in just in case you want to use it. But if you find him lame, feel free to dispose of him  ). I've incorporated gifs, pics, etc. to hopefully engage the students a bit more in the lessons. My kids seem to love them, and I hope yours do, too!

That's all for now. I hope this helps! I know it can be a hassle to make a lot of this stuff, especially if you have to do it all by yourself. But don't give up! I've personally seen just how much of a  difference it makes to my kids when they're presented with something somewhat polished as opposed to something that I just threw together. We're in this together. 우리 화이팅! :azn:

Happy Teaching, everybody!

Here's another intro ppt with GIFs for the key words, and practice slides for the new expressions. I already had it made, so I figured I would still share it to give others more options. ^^

Period 1

Picture cards for the Listen & Play activity (and reading cards to use for warm-ups and later in the lesson) - my students really enjoyed this game! We played it in three rounds. The first round I had three students answer their favorite season by mixing up the season cards from the back of the book and pulling one each. The second round, I had two students answer, and the third round only one student. The students left at the end of that round are the winners.

Period 2

Talk Together: I have my students practice the dialogues in Part B with a partner. They each have to add a sentence to the end (working their way up to adding more sentences as we go along in the book). Students who share their dialogues with the class can get a stamp.

Sing Along: I also played the original song before the one from the textbook. It's called "A Lover's Concerto" by The Toys. Apparently the kids all knew the tune from a popular commercial here.

Period 4

Let's Read: Here is a ppt with the new words from the reading selection. I had the students write the Korean translations in their notebooks. Then we read the selection one paragraph at a time and asked them questions after each one. We read it one more time, and then students had to close their books and do the missing words activity.

Here is a survey worksheet i made for period 2. Students need to use target sentences to find out the information, so you will need to  moniter to make sure they don't just go around saying only the name of the sport :) should only take 5-7 minutes :)

Here is an intro powerpoint I made for Period 1. I adapted a lot of the PowerPoint from an old textbook with a similar topic (What's Your Favourite Season?) if you are looking for more ideas:

http://waygook.org/index.php?topic=34382

I also teaching the "Four Seasons" Song by the Alphabots, which we will practice every class.  I attached the lyrics, which I'll get them to glue in Lesson 2 of their textbook:

Spy Game for this lesson.

This is my most requested game. Students love the spy game. Students mingle and speak the expressions:

What's your favorite season?
My favorite season is _______.
(______ is my favorite season.)

A telepathy game using the expressions " What's your favorite season? What's your favorite sport? My favorite _©__ is ___. __ is my favorite __©__. Same here."
Best to do this game at period 2. There is an intro at the beginning for the sports. One of the teachers on here created an explanation for category using the © sign in the expressions. Thank you.
My students grasped that concept very well. Therefore I incorporate the © sign into the expressions to signify category.

A really simple survey game for review. Each student is required to gain six signatures. 2 for each category. The students achieve this by completing the dialogue and playing RPS.

I made a short dialogue ppt for 2nd period featuring Batman and villains. You can use this with or instead of Talk Together.

Ah, I just remembered that you might need to download the Batman font for it to look nice.  I downloaded it from here http://www.dafont.com/batman-forever.font
