2015 Grade 6 Cheonjae 3 - 3. I Have a Headache
« on: March 30, 2015, 11:02:51 PM »
Lesson 3-1
Introduction lesson covering Key Words and Expressions in both English and Korean.
Worksheet to go along with the ppt. (I didn't put these words on the worksheet, although they are on the ppt: drink, nose, rainy. There's a lot of words for this lesson and my students already know those already, so to limit how much they write down, I omitted those 3.)

Lesson 3-2
Disappearing dialogue for memorization practice. (from Look & Say)

Lesson 3-3
Basking Robbins 31 Game. Students can read either 1, 2, or 3 boxes. Whoever reads box 31 loses.

Lesson 3-4
Quick and easy Word Lotto Game. Students write down 3 words and get points for each word that remains at the end of each round.

Lesson 3-5
Doctor/Patient Roleplay. I took these materials from lianney who posted it in the Cheonjae Book 2, Lesson 2 thread (thanks!).  I modified it a little bit so it suits our chapter's language exactly. I also changed a few of the characters. I put the medical charts in a plastic sleeve so I could reuse them for different classes and when I had the patients and doctors switch roles. Students use 'What's your name?', 'What's wrong?', 'I have a ___.', and 'You should _____.' to complete the activity.

Lesson 3-6
Spongebob Bomb game for review. I put in a few questions from Lesson 1 and 2 as well. You can get the required font here: http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,22140.0.html

Also check out Cheonjae Book 2, lesson 2. It's pretty much the same topic.

Book 2 Lesson 2 really helps a lot with this one.  I took a Mario game from that thread and modified it for this lesson.  Lesson 4 from last year's book is basically the same as well.

Here is another intro ppt, including slides to practice forming the key expressions.

There is a lot of great material for this lesson in the old textbook as well. The wording of the key sentences is slightly different though (such as "What's the matter? instead of "What's wrong?"), so you'll have to do a little bit of editing if you pull anything from there.

Period 1. You need the CDROM for the book to play the game.

I haven't tried this yet, but another user just posted it in a different thread and it looks like something the students would really get into!
http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,85927.msg535517/topicseen.html#new

"For Grade 6  the dubbing lesson was based on the unit "I have a fever" which is about going to the doctor and includes phrases "What's the matter?" , "That's too bad", "I have a fever / cold / runny nose / headache / stomach ache..." and "You should drink some warm water / get some rest / see the doctor...

So naturally, I looked for clips (scoured YouTube) for any medical based scenarios. Then after editing them and removing the audio I wrote simple scripts that practiced the vocabulary and phrases we were studying in class.

The basic set up -
- find short clips that relate to your current topic
- remove the audio (if you're not a techie you can simply press the mute button)
- write scripts for these silent video-clips that suit your student level and topic (if you're teaching high level have them write their own scripts)
- have the students rehearse their scripts, practice makes perfect!
- lastly, have your students 'dub' the clips in front of the class.
- Record!

My students loved the challenge and the chance to perform! All while practicing, reading, speaking and comprehending! A win, win for us teachers!"

Do what you will with these files.  I've taken many ideas from this site before, so here's my input.

Period 1
Motivation video, Key Expressions file and simple Trashball speaking game.

Period 4
Find The Mistakes exercise, followed by Sudoku puzzle.  There is a Powerpoint to explain to students how to play. 2 Sudoku puzzles and solutions provided.  You can easily adapt this for future lessons by editing the Sudoku puzzle on the Powerpoint.  Use the control and replace feature by pressing Ctrl+f.  Then replace the words with whatever you wish.

This game is called connect 4. Instructions are on the PPT. My students kept asking for a new page. I told them to use the same paper and change the colour or I advised them to use a different shape to keep track. I, of course, gave them a new page if their paper was too messy ;D

A special thanks to the original poster. I got this off another thread.

Got this game off the official teacher's resource website. I didn't make it, I just added/changed the pictures and such to fit the chapter. 16 questions only so it will probably go pretty quick. I haven't tried it yet with my kids but I'm planning to use it next class.

Finished up this lesson today so I'll share what I've got.  The Plants vs. Zombies game is for practicing the phrases and conditions.  I used the Typhoon game to finish the lesson.  Take note, there is an issue with boxes 1 and 13 that I can't seem to fix so if you can correct that do so.  Finally there's my standard word search puzzle.

Hi everybody!

I received some feedback on my uploads from other lessons, so I wanted to upload all of my stuff for Lesson 3 as well. >_<

I have included some original PPTs, and I have modified some of the PPTs that other people have contributed (Thanks guys!  ;D) to better fit my classroom. I've extracted most of the material in the PPTs that is specific to my school and my personal point system, but I've left a few nuggets in there that can be easily deleted if you want (There's a police officer that pops up occasionally to police grammar. My kids like to pretend as if they'll really be arrested for bad grammar. Silly I know, but I left a few in just in case you want to use it. But if you find him lame, feel free to dispose of him  ). I've incorporated gifs, pics, etc. to hopefully engage the students a bit more in the lessons. My kids seem to love them, and I hope yours do, too!

I hope you find this helpful! I know it can be a hassle to make a lot of this stuff, especially if you have to do it all by yourself. But don't give up! I've personally seen just how much of a  difference it makes to my kids when they're presented with something somewhat polished as opposed to something that I just threw together. We're in this together. 우리 화이팅! :azn:

Happy Teaching, everybody!

I lied, lol. THe last one wasn't the last one. It wasn't on purpose. I forgot to attach the Key Words and Key Sentences that I made for this lesson. It's a combination of book words and other words that I think they should know. I had my co-teacher double-check the Korean (I'm far from perfect! :cheesy: ) so I know they're right. I print them, cut them out and have the students attach them to their book. For Lesson 3 I had them paste them to pages 40 and 41 for reference.  8)

I hope this helps!

Happy teaching, everyone!
Have a superb day.

If the writing/reading section is too easy for your students like it is for mine, I created an extra reading comprehension worksheet for them to do. Make sure to briefly teach the "new words" introduced in the text. (I just wrote them on the board)

Here they are in order of appearance:
- cough > 기침 하다
- exam > 시험
- need > 필요로 하다
- both > 둘다
- worried > 걱정 하다
- touch > 만지다
- forehead > 이마
- early > 일찍
- after >  ~후에

And here is the answer key:
B1. True
B2. True
B3. False
B4. False
B5. False

C1. Because he has a math and English exam
C2. He has a cold or He has a runny nose, coughs a lot, and has a fever or He has a headache
C3. He takes some medicine and sleeps for four hours.
Happiness is a choice.

My students have to read an English story for 5 minutes every day at the start of class. We read the same story all together, bit by bit throughout the month. We read a new story every month.  For this month, my co-t approved us reading a poem instead. I put together a PPT for "Sick" by Shel Silverstein to coincide with this lesson. I'm sharing it here and on the story ppt thread in hopes that some of you can use it too, because I put a lot of work into it.

Here is a ppt to practice giving advice as well. We taught the expressions using a PPT that my co-teacher found and modified, but it was a little long. I made this one using the cards from the Speak & Play activity to practice pairing symptoms and suggestions.

Here is another ppt for the Join and Play activity in the book. I used l.coakley's short ppt to review symptoms and advice, and I modified Ascheer's Doctor Worksheet (originally from lianney who posted it in the Cheonjae Book 2 thread). I made a PPT to help explain how to fill out the worksheet, and then I role-played a few examples with my co-teacher to show the students how to make the dialogue and fill out the sheet.

I left the doctor/patient dialogue slide up the screen for the students to use as a template. To save some paper, I printed the worksheets from the last two slides using two slides per page.

The kids loved it! I have a few students who are usually really disinterested in class and unwilling to participate, and even most of them got into this game. ^^
