Facebook Group OINK (only in Korea)
« on: April 20, 2017, 07:43:26 PM »
What has happened to this group?

It has become a liberal socialist breeding ground. Every joke or news article is pro liberal and anti trump and conservative. Then everyone picks a side and fights and the other side is always wrong!

Has debate been destroyed by liberal democrats?

Are the majority of foreigners here Venezuela style socialist now?

The group is starting to destroy its self!

That group is ****** toxic as hell. Racist ass shit against Koreans gets posted on the daily and people love it. Posts about "dogs are not food" and memes where they mock ESL learners are dumb. It's a literal shit hole.

Yeah, last couple days have been horrible! The mods are even fighting and arguing now! Wonder how long until the whole group is disbanded. With the mods banning people left and right it could lead to a rival group also.

The mods have always used it as a platform to affirm their agendas, seek approval and ridicule anyone or anything who doesn't agree with them by throwing hissy fits and acting like damn children.

Unless you're a hypocrite, a radical feminist, an atheist, vegan and are incapable of having a civil discussion, stay away.

I'd rather endure a 6hr bus ride, filled with ajummas and trot music.

i've been a member of that group virtually from day one. it's only like 2 or 3 years old actually.

it first started out as a light-hearted look at life in korea. people were really friendly, everyone used to joke around, there were some great people on there. some good humor and reasonable discussion.

then what happened? the Great White Saviors got wind that *gasp* someone might be poking fun at korea! so more and more of those people started to join the group, and of course got super-offended and pissed off anytime anyone made fun of something that goes on here or said anything remotely bad about korea.

and these people, being not exactly the most intelligent or socially aware people that they are, ended up making every thread degenerate into basically a mud-slinging match between the korea lovers and the korea haters, with no middle ground, humor, or reasonable discussion allowed.

THAT'S what the killed the group.

It does seem to be going downhill. Still, I find it a hotbed of tolerance compared to what the Facebook GEPIK page was like.  It was run by this keyboard warrior that threw his weight around and a cyber bad ass. Yet in real life he was a wallflower.  Lived in my officetel and literally would not not make eye contact with other foreigners in the elevator.  Frightened of his own shadow. Then the shrieking woman that would ban people if they dared to disagree with her and when angry would write in ALL CAPS!  She also used to write LOL every second sentence when it served no purpose.  So, even though the arguments are making OINK pretty dull, I still find it open to disagreements and other opinions.

That place is pure shit on both sides and I left ages ago.

But there was one Korean(?) woman who really took the cake, arguing every single time someone had something bad to say about Korea and making it her mission to include positive posts about the country as if that's going to change the minds of anyone who hates this place. The worst thing about it is she took that behavior to other groups too, and now people in FB groups can't share a bad experience or ask for advice without her showing up to say how it's all a misunderstanding or its really the foreigners fault. If she wants to troll the OINK fb page that's one thing, but clogging up other groups with the same mess too? Come on.

Glad I never heard of that group. And if it's just a facebook group, who really cares? The old saying holds true here, if you don't like it, leave. I mean it's facebook, just make your own group and moderate it how you want. Or don't! Who cares right?!

I get what you're saying but also I think some people feel forced into this role.

When every day is just full of negative / anti Korea /  sometimes racist / stupid basic shit it can get a bit much. That's how I feel anyway.

When there are 5 "Look at this spit. Koreans are SAVAGES" in one day it can be infuriating but also boring.

There are idiots on both sides, but it like the group has pushed the sides further apart somehow. ?

But yeah I can imagine it was way more fun when it was smaller....

That group is just the RANTING/VENTING MEGATHREAD with more memes and more military people. Most of the people in that group remind me of the girl I met at a beer festival who was going around yelling "F**K THIS COUNTRY WHY THE F**K DO I HAVE TO DEFEND IT!? ALL I GOT FROM HERE WAS ALCOHOL ADDICTION" in the line up for the bathroom.

Lately there's the one troll who likes posting political anti-trump stuff just to get people going, but there's still the odd golden meme in there.

Yeah, the mods are posting the anti trump stuff. Also they made a thread on this topic and think the op is Korean :). I'm not surprise!

Lol guys posting that I'd get angry because they stole pure Korean blood. Lol!

I remember that group. Left it a few years ago. That bloke was a proper tool. Probably on here as well.

I remember the girl who walked around with a baseball bat slung over her shoulder whom I met at a GEPIK teacher training thingy once too. Never forgot that one. Some right lunatics around here.

Yup. She said it was for protection for walking home at 5pm. Dead serious here. This is not a wind up.

Sounds like she's been through some shit. I have a few friends (in the states) who sleep next to knives and carry tasers, pepper spray, and/or a knife when they're outside but they grew up in different violent and sexually abusive situations... she could have a similar story but carried a bat because it's legal?

One thing about Facebook though is they can see your photo (if you use a face photo), your name, and location.

I'm part of the GEPIK group but I never participate in it (even though I have urges to sometimes) because I feel my co-teachers might be a part of that group as well.  And I don't want them adding me on facebook.  Because I'm a extreme lib, fem B*tch and most Korean I tend to work with lend toward conservative values (marriage man/woman only, extreme Christians etc. )  Plus I don't want future employers/fellow employees to see me either.

Only In Korea is falling apart at the seams now! It will be only a matter of time before the group is disbanded. It had a good 2-3 years but waygook.org will win.

The mods on oink can't even handle the group anymore and the posts are getting worse everyday.
