TIL it is something like Pacific and East Asian Month.

This belief is understandable because it's hard for us humans to recognise discrimination against people we don't include in our circles. Koreans having higher than normal walls, makes this seems natural.

Koreans, and (East?) Asians in general face the least discrimination, in my estimation. Yes, any discrimination is bad. Our goal should be not to discriminate at all.

Koreans, please understand everyone's (minus white people/Caucasians) unique situation.

I find the Koreans in the video rather naive but that's to be expected from people that grow up in such a sheltered environment. If Koreans were white then Korea would be a white nationalist paradise because of its lack of diversity and lack of anti-discrimination laws.

Yeah, the video seems to be more about what kids think of America. Apart from the two ajummas who thought Trump should be doing more for non Americans  like that's his job. One of the kids said she'd like to live in the U.S. As long as 'the racism problem gets addressed' I wonder how she thinks that could be achieved. By making laws about it, no doubt. Make it a crime to do the slitty eyes gesture, or assume an Asian woman is a nanny.

I like the comment about how Koreans are better dressed than all Westerners and that America is famous for cheese. One of my ex girlfriends told me Koreans use the English word for wine as wine comes from America. Some of them really should try to be a bit better educated about the world. Especially since ignorance about other cultures/nationalities is the main cause of racism among any people.

Koreans tend to think that anything that happens to them is 10 times more important than anything that happens to anyone else.

Wouldn't that be natural for any human?  To behave in that way?

Certainly I focus on my own business and its importance, and don't usually interfere in the business of others.

Unfortunately, CNN is found on many TV packages around Asia, and as a result is the source of many people’s spin “news” about America. And then there is Hollywood......

Clearly they haven't become enlightened by Fox News and VatnikToday yet.

I think Korea would be nice if they took care of that whole racism thing.

Racism doesn't exist here.

Asian Boss, what crap. What do South Koreans think about something they know little about. This video just shows the arrogance of Koreans to pronounce on topics they have little knowledge.

If there was a video of Americans discussing Korean society would anyone take that seriously. Doubt any Korean would.

Asians do face a certain type of discrimination in America that blacks don't face much of these days- overt discrimination.

If you openly discriminate a black person in public, you are asking to be crucified on the spot.
If you openly discriminate an Asian person in public, it depends on how severe the discrimination is, but it's very often that people get away with overtly discriminating Asians in public in the US.

With that said... black people still face the worst discrimination on many levels in the US when it comes to prejudice and even the law.

Ehhhh, I get your point but being the hegemon comes with the fact that a lot of smaller countries will know a lot more about your country than they would of yours.
Ignoring isn’t the same as ignorance, you have to work at it.

For the Koreans that are making the assumption before they actually go abroad and experience things first hand, I agree that its silly to assume that you are going to get things worse than another person.  There are plenty of people who go abroad and have a blast.

For those that DID go abroad and experienced discrimination first hand, well that's just something that undeniable from their perspective.  I'm not going to try to convince them that they were just imagining it.  That was just the luck of the dice roll that they got a bad experience.

But back to what you were saying.  I think Koreans would equally take a foreigner's perspective about Korea with a grain of salt if they never even stepped foot in Korea themselves.  So in that respect, I think both sides would think exactly the same.  However, "usually" I see more videos interviewing foreigners who ARE living in Korea.  And typically, questions would be directed more towards their opinions and what they experienced, rather than specifics about Korean society that they would have no clue about.

They might face a certain type of discrimination, but it's nowhere near the levels of other ethnic groups.  Asians are considered the model minority in America.  Sure there is some discrimination, but there is also a lot of beneficial stereotypes like being well educated, hard working, etc. that would give a lot of advantages too.  So, at the end of the day, it's likely that you are still coming out ahead.

Most of the time, IF there was some complaint, it just seems like they are being overly whiny.  It's the same as when people get overly PC about everything.  Rather than learning to have thicker skin, everyone is just getting offended about everything.

I think I partially agree. Look at Trump. Despite his political incorrectness, he still seems to avoid making the kind of negative generalizations about blacks that he has made about other groups. Blacks also benefit more from affirmative action. Asians have to get higher SAT scores than blacks to be admitted to many universities. Would Michelle Obama have been admitted to Princeton if she had been Asian? I doubt it. Even she admits her test scores were not impressive.

not surprised at all by this. koreans think they are the most important people in the world. when they tried to show The Amazing Race here, everyone turned off after 5 minutes when koreans realized the show wasn't about them.

just look at how koreans kick up a fuss at anything that happens to them in the US that they perceive as even remotely discriminatory. newspaper are contacted, marches are staged, the Korean American association gets involved.

complain about racism in korea? you just get told you can leave if you don't like, that korea is only for koreans, and that we aren't korean so shouldn't expect equal treatment
