This was reading topic day so we did a children's book about Covid-19 and the rainbow trend. Kids were able to talk about their feelings being stuck at home. Feel free to use and modify if it is helpful. Could be for this lesson or camp.

Virus Game for speaking practice. Obviously if your school is still very strict with covid limitations, this game won't work. For whatever reason my school has gotten more lax and I just roll with it lol.

This is my first time to do this game and we tested out a few different methods over the course of the day. You can adapt it and edit slides as you see fit.

A few ways we changed the game for different classes (the PPT is the first "version" and through the day I verbally made changes, I left the PPT as it was originally so anyone can change it as they want):
- initially, getting "vaccine" made you completely immune. First class had fun with this but obviously this puts the virus people at a disadvantage lol so eventually we got rid of that aspect and anyone with the vaccine could still get the virus.
- we played around with the number of virus and vaccine students. i.e., 2 viruses, 1 vaccine; 3 viruses, 2 vaccines; 2 viruses, 3 vaccines; 3 and 3. For the last 2 classes we were able to do 3 rounds and did a different amount each time slightly based on the outcome of previous rounds.
- In the first iteration of the game (i.e., the attached file) the viruses won if more than half the class became viruses, but later we changed it to be "between viruses and vaccines, whichever has more at the end wins."

Also, I chose the viruses and vaccines through a heads up seven up/mafia method. All students put their heads down and I said "I'll choose ____ viruses" and then went around and tapped those students. Then I said "I'll choose ___ vaccines" and did the same.

I wrote the key phrases on the board so students had a quick reference.

At the end of a round, students returned to their seats and I would ask:
- "If you were a virus at the beginning, raise your hand."
- "If you were a vaccine at the beginning, raise your hand."
- "If you're a virus NOW, raise your hand."
- "If you're a vaccine NOW, raise your hand."

Finally, I put music on the slides because my kids love when I play K-Pop. All the songs are really popular with the kids. However, obviously you can just delete the audio files if you don't want the music.
