Here is the Heads up 7 up game that someone posted in the previous unit for this book. I changed the text for this chapter and I included the cards for this chapter. There are 8 phrases, you can choose whichever ones or as many as you want the students to use.

Update: The game went over well. My teacher printed enough of the Mother, May I ... sheets so each pair could have one. It worked out better that way because they didn't pay attention if they didn't have something to look at. She also put the points on it so the students could remember how many points each is worth.

I found a mistake on the Mother card document; I put "May I sit down?" instead of "May I sit here?" It's not a big deal, but since the name of the lesson is "May I Sit Here?," I changed it.

I played this game a few years ago with my school's old book and I adapted it for the new book. It is a different version of the game "Mother, May I ... ?" In the real version of the game, the students would go to the back of the room. One student would be in the front of the room as the mother. Students would ask the mother question using the expression, "Mother, may I ... ", if the mother says, "Yes, you may," the students would be able to move forward one step, but if she says "No, you may not," the students stay in the same place.

My classes are too big for that, and I don't think it would hold the 5th graders attention too long, so I changed the game a bit. My classroom has three columns of desks, with the desks in pairs, so I will make three teams. Each team gets the Mother, May I ... paper. I am the mother first, and I stand at the front of the room with one of the Mother, May I ... cards.  I print out the first slide of the Mother, May I Angry Mom edition and put it on one end the whiteboard. On the other end of the whiteboard, I draw three long lines, one for each team, going towards the Angry Mom picture. Our whiteboard is a grid, so every few squares I draw a circle on each line. The circles are the steps. I put a magnet at the beginning of each line; a different color for each team. The students try to guess which card I have using the expression "Mother, may I," and other expressions from the book. If they guess correctly, I will move their team's magnet closer to the mother using the circles, or steps. The person who guesses correctly then becomes the mother.  This goes on until the end of class, or a team reaches the mother.

I haven't played this yet for the new book, so I might make some changes if I hear different expressions in the book or something.

Speed writing game to review lessons 1 to 3. at the end it gets a little bit fun because the students have to switch to the hand with which they don't normally write, and also try to write with the pencil in their mouth. Enjoy

Just a simple review guessing game where the boxes disappear and the students have to guess the phrase. Ideal for second or third period.

Lesson materials I used for some sections of Lesson 3. Most, if not all, of these materials are borrowed and modified/updated from other sources.

Period 2 - Hot Seat warm-up, Review the expressions, Forehead sentences game (each student gets a sentence card taped to their forhead (or back of shirt with a clip) and must guess the sentence by saying "May I _____?". If the sentence is correct, the response is "Yes you may. Go ahead." If the sentence is incorrect, the response is "No, you may not.")

Here is a link to the PPT online lessons I've built (will update as I make all 6 parts). They should be able to be uploaded into an LMS (the online hosting sites the students use to retrieve materials from their teachers) and be played through. There are both the PPTX and PPT Show files for each part in the folder. If you need to adjust anything for you class level, use the PPTX and then save again as a PPT Show. Uploading the show file to the LMS will keep the students from being able to manipulate the file and only play through. Entire lesson (all 6 parts) is in folder.
