What TV series are you into now, or have watched?
« on: November 24, 2020, 09:36:37 am »
I just got Netflix hooked up. The premium UHD package. The picture is incredible. Best of all it was free. My friend gave me his login info: 1-2-3 and I'm in...free Netflix.

I binged on Sunday and watched "Queen's Gambit".

It was amazing.

I've previously watched:

The Sopranos
Breaking bad
Ozark
Homeland
Billions
Sons of Anarchy

Want to start "The Crown" soon. I love the monarchy. Looking forward to a strong King when Charles takes over.

Any suggestions for other series' to watch?

Kenny Vs Spenny  - 2 Best friends compete for survival. Why? Glory for the winner, humiliation for the loser.
Heartbeat  - British Cop Show form the 90s that takes place in the 60s
Hamish Macbeth - Scottish cop show in modern times featuring the amazing Robert Carlyle.

Good suggestions. I saw most of Vikings but I'll start again. It was awesome.

Line of Duty sounds promising. Military or cops? Both are good. I liked Bluebloods too.

I'm rewatching LOST

I'm rewatching LOST

A lot of people poop on the ending but who cares? that's 8% of the show.

If I told you you weren't gonna love 8% of your vacation in Bali but the other 92% was gonna be great, you'd still go.

If I told you 8% of private time with your favourite Kpop star (yes, that's what I mean, don't be thick) was gonna be lacklustre, but the other 92% was gonna be fantastic, you wouldn't turn it down.

Lost is one of the greatest shows ever made and the fact that the ending was lucklustre for many shouldn't detract ANYONE from taking the dive into this show.

Presently: Fargo, Warrior, S.U.V, Chicago PD, The Goldbergs, Blackish, and Young Sheldon.
Waiting for the new season: Snowfall, Billions, Ozark, Yellowstone, and the last part of Vikings.
Finished but wished they hadn't: S.O.A, Homeland, Justified, Banshee, Longmire, and Deadwood.

# Edit.  How could I have forgotten 'Bosch'.

I liked Bosch, and I've read most of the books and the guy who played Bosch fit the book's character pretty well.  It's also a show that keeps a good pace.  I've been disappointed by a lot of shows that are on the streaming services these days.  I can't stay interested, even if I've enjoyed them at the beginning.  Shows that I've just lost interest in at various points in their run include Money Heist, The Man in the High Castle, and the latest season of The Crown.

I'm not interested in The Charles and Diana story as they've been in the news most of my life and I don't care if the monarchy survives.  Also, watching Scully do Margaret Thatcher has been absolutely painful.  It's like she based her character on watching a Splitting Heirs caricature instead of the real thing.   The voice is just comical/annoying.  I get it that Thatcher actually altered her voice so it may be accurate, but man, is it grating in every scene she's in.  And apparently this season, as is de rigeur this year, they've taken a left of centre stance and allowed themselves to alter history to knock Thatcher. The only reason I enjoyed the previous seasons was because of learning some interesting history.  If they're going to take a political angle and make up stuff it loses a big part of its appeal for me.

As for Fargo, season four, I am greatly disappointed.  It's trying to be so clever and profound with its dialogue that the action is moving at a snail's pace.  Each episode is mostly characters profoundly grandstanding and forgetting to move the story forward.  And some of the cast choices don't work.  Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman as gang leaders are just amusing or unconvincing.  The guy who plays the over the top psycho brother of the mafia boss reminds me of John Candy in SCTV's version of the Godfather with a bit of Dr. Tongue in 3D thrown in.  And I guess because it's Fargo the characters have to have quirky annoying idiosyncratic habits for the sake of nothing.  Why does the nurse walk like no one on the planet has ever walked?

American Gods is good.  Some good characters, dialogue, acting and action in this series.  Just started season 2.

I don't really watch TV much anymore.  Not even Netflix.  I use to like the History channel KT has but they changed it to some retarded Korean version where they go to Geoje and make kimchi with halmonee.  What that has to do with history is beyond me.  But, they did recently get the global National Geographic channel.  So, I am happy about that.  Did they get rid of Discovery though?  I guess I watch that the most now on my cable package.  Use to watch Fox News too, but they have become traitors and fake news, so I don't watch now.  KT can remove it along with CNN for all I care.  I stream Newsmax, NTD, Epoch Times, Next News Network, Sky News Australia, and some stuff off bitchute like x22 report or amazing polly.

Once in a blue moon download a show or series.  I use to like Mountain Men and Vikings from the former History channel they use to have.
I can see.  I can see.  I can see....

Why can't Netflix or Amazon do travel shows that don't have another overriding angle, instead of just a show about travelling?  Youtube has some good ones, and Rick Steve's, although a bit cheesy at first glance, is just about travelling and the destination.  But almost every show on Netflix is about eating while travelling.  Didn't Bourdain cover that?  There's this crappy Somebody Feed Phil out now in season 2 or 3.  Another "funny" guy (he created Everybody Loves Raymond) travelling around the world and eating.  It gets old.  Just focus on the destination the way Rick Steve's does or the old Lonely Planet/Pilot Guide series.  Travels With My Father isn't bad but the focus is the dynamic between father and son.  Cool destinations, though.  Dark Tourist was good, but perhaps a second season was put off with Covid.

For travel shows, I'll take free Youtube over the paid services.  They need to get involved with guys like Joolzguides (make me want to go back to London and I've been there a couple of times) or even guys like Wingin' It.  This guy focuses on train and plane rides all over the world.  Easy budget and simple and entertaining videos.

Jesus Christ. My GF said she's watching it and we watched one last weekend.

*Gets bagel with cheese. * "Wow, this is a bagel and it has cheese on it." *mugs for camera*

That's the show. It's like a meokbang, almost.

He's not even annoying,  I don't even hate the show, per se, it's just that he has NOTHING to add to the situation at hand. Nothing.

Christ, I miss Bourdain. He was a cook and he could write eloquently and he was truly curious and respectful. Huge loss for food tourism.

Yup, bug eyes is his go to move.  He was in Seoul and Montreal so I watched them.  Nice guy.  Doesn't condescend or anything, but it really is just him travelling around and saying "I'm hungry."

... True Detective... TNG,... Homicide: Life on the Street...
Three of most enjoyable series I've ever seen!
Help others, especially animals. Say what you think, be considerate of others. Appreciate more than deprecate. Teach well, jump on teachable moments. Enjoy Korea as it is, without changing it. Dwell! Yet, at times, change your life for the better. "The most important [thing] is to have a good day."
