Shaving
« on: January 18, 2022, 01:31:16 pm »
I was chatting with my band-mates the other day (I'm back in the band scene!) about razors.

I use the disposable Gillette ones shown. I buy a pack of 4 for about $2.00 and they will last me nearly a year. I can get at least 2-3 months out of one of them.

I'm done with paying out insane money for insane razors that are not one bit better than these.

What do you use? How long do they last?

I have been using Gillette Mach some number or other, for years. Smooth. Does the job.

Though some weeks I rock a goatee until the weekend due to the mask covering it anyways and my cats like it.

I used to use a Gillette Mach 3 which was good but buying new blades was crazy. So I tried their disposable. They're great. I usually use just soap. I never buy shaving cream either.

I use the Gillette Mach 3 and a couple of years ago my brother tuned me in to one of those tips to make it last longer.  Run the blade along some denim and it sharpens it.  I go a few months that way without changing blades.  Likely less if I didn't wear a mask and shaved everyday, but it'll dramatically extend the life of your blade.  Run it away from you while you hold the handle with the blades down.  It works.

When I do shave I use a safety razor. I buy blades on Amazon for $10 per hundred ever few years.

Disposables or cartridges don’t work for me. I need 2 per shave… which is why I usually sport a beard even though my wife hates it.

Thought of going the safety razor route for their low cost but when looking at the time and care it took, stuck to my Mach3

I dry the blades after shaving to lengthen their life. Water corrodes the metal. I tried the jeans sharpening technique but didn't feel it did much. One blade lasts me a month or two.

But for the record I use an old Philips that I bought years ago in Me gook (100 to 240 V outlet) and change the shaving heads once a year (re order on Amazon).

I have absolutely no idea what that was about. It didn't look like a razor commercial. The song was terrible too.

Yeah, I use the Gillette Mach 3. Totally expensive. I use them until
they get so dull that chunks of flesh get torn off my face. Also
the shaving cream is expensive.

I might try the cheap disposables with a decent shaving cream.

My bad dude.  Was trying to derail with metallurgy.  She has pedigree locally though, without need for swinging from Chandelier.  But yeah, female empowerment or perhaps gender no specific empowerment. You know.  Being strong like Titanium.

I use this https://www.coupang.com/vp/products/1941830921?
Very cheap and after the first few attempts that took forever and cut my face to hell, easy to use and a nice smooth shave.  I change the blade each week, shaving approximately 3/4 times a week.

Actually I was a Gillette man until they said I and other men were rapists.  That was when I used a razor on very rare occasion and not my electric shaver.  Maybe I should start a thread on a good electric shaver to buy as mine is very old.  (Preferably one that is 100 to 240 V)

I agree the ad was tasteless. But 1 dumb ad during peak wokeness does not make me completely freak out over a company.
