What is something from your youth that was always around but you don't see anymore.

When I was young, the bathroom was very much a reading room. To the point where, every bathroom (and houses only had one in those days) had a rack or holder of some sort with magazines and/or newspapers in it. Sometimes the back of the toilet tank was the holder as anyone who watched Breaking Bad would have seen when Hank first figured out Walt was Heisenberg.

Lol, books in the toilet. Installing a book rack was the very first thing I did when I bought my first house. Yeah, nearly every one had a book selection in the bog.

As for me, well...I don't know. I've lived here so long that I'm not sure what's missing from NZ culture, from when I grew up. I do remember nearly every house in the 1960s had black and white lino in the kitchen. It must of been popular well prior to the 60s. Then it sort of just disappeared. It was seen as a no no, and sort of connected to being less affluent. Then, surprise surprise, it became fashionable again in the late 80s. I'll have to rack my brain a bit more.

Edit: Tea cozies. Everyone had a tea cozy or two in the house. Then it seemed like only old people still had them, as the years ticked by. I guess by now they must be fairly rare.

# Red, wooden phone boxes vanished in the 1980s, to be replaced with metal booths. I thnk the UK still has them though.

# Kitchen radios.

Edit: just thought of another. Ape hangers and banana seats. For a time, you were the coolest if you had these on your bike. I never did 

my sat tutor had a veritable bathroom library. pretty sure i spotted a vintage porno in there once.

There is a whole series of books titled Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, tomes of tidbits and longer pieces divided not by subject by length--a nod to the varying levels of commitment required to perform the primary task.

Rhubarb.

While not popular yet in Korea, it's around. There was TV program last week about a bakery/eatery. They were making stuff using rhubarb. I was surprised, and have been thinking about rhubarb pie and rhubarb sponge, ever since.

And yes, you're right! Growing up, it was part of the garden and regular puddings. I loved it, but never bothered growing it, as an adult.

Same with gooseberries. I've also seen them mentioned on some show my wife watches.

Smoking sections on airplanes. I remember as a teenager somehow ending up in the smoking section on an international flight across the Pacific. It was a very long flight.

One memory from my youth is that mothers didn't work. I was nearly 20 before I ever met someone whose mother worked as well as his father. I remember being quite shocked at that.

A memory from my youth was when Korea paid well.
