Thailand Legalizes Marijuana - Giddy Up!
« on: June 09, 2022, 07:33:08 pm »

Thailand has become the first country in Asia to decriminalise marijuana.
Now, people are allowed to grow and possess cannabis.
But the government's warning smoking in public could still land people in trouble.

It's been legal in Cambodia for "culinary use" for many years.  You can find "happy" pizza almost everywhere.

Wow, didn’t know that. I read in Vang Vieng there are restaurants with psychedelics in food. Mary Jane, too.

It just makes it so much more easier to go there after retirement. (Seven years and counting)

Hmm, Korea. Racists, soju, spitting, winter, stress...

Hmm, Thailand: Beaches, weed, disk golf, chill...

Difficult choice.

Easy choice for me.
Help others, especially animals. Say what you think, be considerate of others. Appreciate more than deprecate. Teach well, jump on teachable moments. Enjoy Korea as it is, without changing it. Dwell! Yet, at times, change your life for the better. "The most important [thing] is to have a good day."

Thailand: I think we can all say we have found out the hard way in Phuket that the "woman" we were intimate with for 6 hours the previous night was actually a ladyboy.

Korea: The woman was probably a woman. Hairy, so difficult to tell what was really going on down there, but probably a woman. The penetration she gave me was with plastic. It must be plastic.

This is true. Many restaurants have the same foods on 2 sides of the menu, the left side normal, the right side with "additives": weed, mushrooms and opium, your choice

FYI, the right side is more expensive!

I guess that's how you know in case there is a language barrier.  I spent a few days in Viang Vieng.  Gorgeous, and I loved tubing down the river.  But, it was so exhausting, what with stopping for beers along the way, that in the evening I would head to The Family Guy bar/restaurant and have a regular pizza. I didn't need any more intoxicants at the point in the evening.

Haha, I've noticed all Korean news websites like the Herald and
the Times have given this story a wide berth. This must be the
kind of information that makes Koreans brains seize up. They
have all been brainwashed since the Chun Doo-Hwan and Noh
Tae-Woo regimes to equate any drugs with satanism and
cannibalism.

1) Probably should expand your scope beyond the Korean Times and Korean Herald.
2) Doesn't look like anyone's brain's seized up.
3) I think they're against drugs because 1) The history of the Opium Wars and what drugs did to East Asia and 2) it tends to do things like make you think the most importants story is weed being legalized in Thailand and other kinds of addict-type behavior where thigns relating to getting high become more important than other things.

I wish that Korea and Japan had chosen alcohol as the hill to die on rather than cannabis.

I enjoy a drink every now and then, but you know, it really *is* a lot worse in every way than a bit o' the green.
East Asian office culture would be so00000ooo much more awesome if, rather than getting hammered every evening in the hweshiks or whatever, they all went hotboxing together.

I dunno, while both stoners and boozers pressure you to join in their buzz. At least most boozers somewhat understand that increased consumption of their  product has potential downsides or at the very least is NOT a panacea.

While that's true, let's compare the numbers of fatalities in the US (for no other reason than because they keep good stat records) attributed to alcohol to those attributed to THC:

Alcohol: 80,000 per year.

Cannabis: 0

That's a pretty substantial difference, and that difference is even greater when one starts to include those substances as contributing factors towards death (suicide, car accidents, violence etc).

One might *prefer* one over the other, but it's pretty clear which substance is a bigger detriment to a society.

My point exactly. But don't show Koreans these statistics. They
have been so heavily brainwashed that the numbers would not
register and you would be automatically labelled a societal freak
and outcast for uttering such blasphemy.

Marijuana makes a person more cautious. Alcohol makes a person more reckless. Meaning more accidents. More domestic violence. More sexual assaults.

I'm currently reading another thread where, upon providing stats that show a fact counter to the other poster's claim, they counter that it's not true in their experience, and therefor the stats must be wrong.

Belief perseverance is incredibly annoying . Especially online where you can't just slap good sense into those who need it.

But seriously, I think that in Korea, the issue is that since there is effectively no pot here, it isn't so much that it's better or worse than alcohol, it's that it would be just another vice added to society *in addition* to alcohol.
I think studies showing that pot can replace and mitigate the negative effects that alcohol has on society would be more convincing to the average Korean than a study showing how relatively harmless it is.
