recommendations for dehumidifiers.
« on: August 23, 2022, 09:47:17 am »
I'm looking to get a decent reusable dehumidifier, and wondering if anyone has any recommendations on them? :O

I'm not sure what a reusable dehumidifier is, but I bought one that plugs in and you periodically have to empty the reservoir, for 100,000 W.  Three or four summers ago.  It's a game changer!

All I can say is, do it!  I don't remember the brand but I look it up when I get home if that's what you're after.

That style is basically the one I'm after.
I know there are disposable ones you can get, so I assumed the plug in ones would be considered reusable. xD
Also, thanks! :D

This.

Also good just in case any spills/leaks/other moisture issue emergencies happen.

I have one that I mistakenly bought during the winter, thinking that it was a humidifier. At the time, I was wondering why the Hi-mart sales clerk seemed so hesitant to sell it to me, and why it was so cheap. I argued that it was exactly what I wanted, and could they please just sell it to me. They made me order one from their store supply mag, as it was currently out-of-stock for, retrospectively, obvious reasons.
Anyway, after it finally arrived, I plugged it in and spent a few minutes trying to figure out where to pour the water in. When we realized our mistake, we had to go out and buy an actual humidifier -- obviously not from the store we got the dehumidifier from!

Anyway, it's great (in the summer)! It pulls a few litres out of the air every hour or two, and completely obliterated the budding mold issues we had a few summers ago. I'll post the make and model tomorrow!

Edit:   It's the Winix (with Plasmawave) DOMM100-HWK.
It's a beast. Would def recommend!

I bought a carrier brand one.  from coupang,  was about 140,000.  it was an absolute game changer.  bought the highest liter rated one.  carrier ones are all the same size but have varying motors in them.  they are ranked based on how many liters of water they can pull from the air in a day, as well as area of an apartment that it would cover.  i think mine is 30L...  (the tank is 5L)  i set it to try its best to make my house 30% humidity,  it usually keeps it at around 35%. And i have to empty the resevoir about every 6 hours. its also amazing for putting under your drying rack and will dry a full rack of clothes and towels in about 2 hours.

absolutely buy one.  its amazing, and allows me to run my aircon less because the air is much drier and feels cooler.

I bought a cheapo one off G-market (about 50,000 won if memory serves me correctly). It gets the job done. Especially if you have a small place like I do it doesn't really matter which specific brand/model you pick up as long as you don't totally cheap out or anything.

I got this one to keep by my bathroom:

https://www.coupang.com/vp/products/1747511184?vendorItemId=70964376243&sourceType=MyCoupang_my_orders_list_product_title&isAddedCart=

It's rather small and honestly wouldn't be good for anything more than a small studio, but even with this little thing I feel a difference in my apartment. I have to empty it out once every 2-3 days.

Now that this thread has popped up, I think I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to a bigger and better one, and then just keep this one in my closet. So mostly posting this now so that I can keep track of any suggestions, but the Carrier brand is pretty popular in Korea.

Cheers everyone. :D
I'll wait until tomorrow and will prob order one tomorrow or Thursday.
Might have to make a coupang account too, cause the one Chinguetti linked is much more expensive on gmarket. xD

Also, I got an ad in Chinguetti's post, that made it funny. Between:
I got this one to keep by my bathroom: and the link, I got a "The weirdest things in Japan." with a picture of a lady sitting on a McDonalds service counter with her legs spread. xD
You keep some interesting things in your bathroom, Chinguetti. xD

Isn't it your own browsing history that influences the ads you see? :undecided:

Mine is any a/c.

The temp should be lowered to 24 c anyways.

No, that does not dehumidify a room, unless it has a dehumidify feature.  Most don't.

As I said, getting a dehumidifier was a game-changer for my comfort level during during the hot, humid summer doldrums.

Are you claiming that the tube from my a/c to my bathroom floor ain't pumping water all summer long? Or my 24/7 a/c all summer ain't making my mouth and lips dry every morning when humidity outside is 90%. Or that the most credible science journals i read are not credible?

Mr C i find your claim unfathomable. I just don't get it.

Or unreadable ... "Most don't."  You said yours is "any a/c".  That ain't so.  Period.  Some a/cs have a dehumidifier function, as I said, but mostdon't.

Sheesh!

1. I as a mod haven't deleted a single post for a month (i'm on vacay!);
2. I have never had an air conditioner that didn't have a tube to drain off moisture. Maybe 2015+ ultra-modern a/c units are different, but every air conditioner I've ever had does a fine job drying out the air, removing moisture as well as temperature.

Seriously. Dehumidifiers is for those who don't like cool air from a/c's, want 26 c but dry air; i dtfn.

I've lived in 5 apartments in Seoul and none had a dehumidifier function.

Mr.C is wrong on this one. ALL air conditioners dehumidify the air as a side effect when they operate. Actually, air conditioning was discovered as a side effect of dehumidifiers. They essentially work with the same basic method.

Most units do have a separate dehumidifier function when the main goal is not to cool the air but remove the moisture. So they switch on and off to not let the temperature go down much.
But they only draw moisture from the air when the compressor is working, so they do a much better job when operating on regular cooling setting.

Condensation of humid air is a natural result of cooling the air--the more compact air "squeezes out" water.  That is not however a dehumidifier.

Again, I'm pretty sure we were talking about aircons with a dehumidifier function--a button that says "dry mode" or water drop image or 제습 or similar.

Though the new acs we have at school have this function, I've never had one at home that did.

Having bought my dehumidifier, the change in my apartment's comfort level was almost immediate.

Look, you're the one who wanted recs for a dehumidifier.  If you already have one in your aircon, WTH are we doing here?
