Queen Elizabeth has gone...
« on: September 09, 2022, 05:09:41 am »
Well, I'm not really a huge supporter of the monarchy, but
Elizabeth was an incredible person. I actually the think the UK
should stop with her. Maybe abolish all aristocracy and continue
the 21st century as a republic.

The only decent member of the Royal Family. The rest, not so much. Not a fan of the Monarchy but she performed her role well.

In 2002 I prepared myself to claim a sick day at her passing; however, since then, my dad died, my mom died, my sister died, and Clint Eastwood kept making movies. So, now, I hear this, on the morn of a 4-day Korean Thanksgiving weekend  (yeah, this Chuseok isn't anything special in terms of a harvest festival, anthropologically speaking).

I hope the future is bright.

QEII was 96 years old.

Damn. I was prepared to overreact to her death two decades ago. Now. I can only nod.

She lived a full life.

(I would love to discover a writer who shadowed her and recorded her over her last two decades and yet writes an independent biography.   ... I'd buy that.)

I am a staunch monarchist and I loved my Queen. She did an incredible job for a very long time during some incredibly difficult moments in history.

Do you realize Truman was President when she ascended to the throne? Amazing.

I am heart-broken. It's a sad sad day.

An incredible woman and one of the strongest leaders who has ever lived.

Long live the King.

King Charles III

As a Brit, it's time to move on from the monarchy. Does more harm than good.

My condolences to everyone in The U.K. and Ireland on the loss of their Queen.

I hope Boris Johnson I does as good a job as she did.

I had nothing against the former Queen.  I think she represented the monarch and her country very well.  She was a pillar of the personification of duty and I offer a respectful bow to her passing.  I certainly enjoyed the time when she snapped at former president Obama...lovely moment.  I suspect she was a good judge of character.  She certainly had much respect for Reagan, though, that was an interesting period of time, when Thatcher and Reagan also had a very productive and respectful relationship.

This certainly is monumental, on the historic timeline.  I am curious to see how this will impact events to come.

I also certainly hope that the United States, despite it's "white supremacy", virtue-signaling, victim-brigades, race-hustlers, gender-bending pseudo science,  failing and crumbling institutions, etc., et., ...remembers and honors Elizabeth II with the respect she deserves.

I'm no redcoat but I think a monarch can be a unifying figure, especially one like QE2 or Prince Charles, who are respected. I think it could help keep the UK, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland all together as everyone would have a positive view and celebrate together.

The radio address she gave when she was 21, articulating her devotion to duty, was quite inspiring.

I cannot imagine any 21 year old Westerner having not only the linear thought process, respectable vernacular and devotion to the concepts of duty to ones country, family institutions..and a higher power.

Mememe syndrome is exactly it. Well put. He provided another perfect example in the rambling thread this morning.

You nailed it Spliced...just a continuing series of often repetitive shaggy dog stories. The one on the middle income thread is monumental. I now have read most of those facts a dozen times. Maybe there was one person in Korea who hadn't, and he was trying to reach out to that poor soul.

That could be any one of us...at least there was no foul play intended.

Thanks for mentioning that mind boggling post on the middle income thread. That’s the kind of thread I never look at. Usually turns into a pissing contest that has no bearing on my income.  So, if you hadn’t mentioned it I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy that absolutely bizarre tangent. That should be made a sticky, it’s so good. Better even than the time he basically went off on another “This is my life “ space trip that included him comparing the size of co*ks in the locker room.

Listen. kings will be kings for all that may. I'm as red blooded as they come (in the sense of being American) but these ulster.protestsnt roots run deep. The resentment of unionists at being subsumed into an entirely different state on whose soil they have had a legitimate right to lay claim for nearly a century. Even the old ghost town that is Derry. Its name no longer captures its essence.

I may be wrong. But I think on this scale the war that once was can never be re-litggated. The queen herself played a big part in stopping it. Perhaps we in the States could have could engaged her in a dialogue about healing the division (racial war, whackery and wokery) in our own country.

Time will tell. I'd look forward to finding out what King Charles II will have to say when he wakes up on the day of his coronation. and raising a "PINT" in his honor!

All so true. Also, the media won't talk about it because of political correctness and woke, but since the end of religious division in Northern Ireland, UK tire imports have increased significantly. Time will tell if that continues under King Charles II, because the Queen did so much to bring about this monumental change.
