Places to visit in Seoul
« on: October 18, 2022, 07:57:28 am »
Where do you recommend? This weekend I’m meeting a woman who is visiting Korea. What would be a good experience? Any events going on?

I would suggest you find something that people would actually give a shite about....and possibly not a one-way, feminine thought process...equatable to that of taking a black and white photograph of a tea cup in the back yard, and commenting on it so that it may deserve some sort of worthy magical ambiance, simply because you re some obese, ate-up Western woman covered in tatoos expecting "equal opportunity",, but only on your terms.

Actually..simply stated..your posts suck.

Seriously...dig somewhere else.

Hiking an old military conduit through a valley in Bukhansan tht had been offlimits to the public for decades

A modern art museum which has hosted amazing artisits over the years.

Nightlife in a uni area.

If those aren't your thing, that's okily-dokily but that's not exactly watching paint dry. What are you suggesting? Skydiving? Or are you going to be super vague and write noraebang and clubs which doesn't help anyone. It's like saying "Go to a restaurant that has Korean food." Get specific or GTFO, L I has lived here a while. He needs specific stuff, not "Have you been to noraebang?"

The military museum is worth a visit for the artifacts, but I found their telling of Korean history a bit questionable.

They'll probably like Itaewon.  It's an area where most foreigners in the country gather on weekends, and Koreans tend to avoid like the plague.  The most popular places there outside of hooker hill are Canucks and RMT, big with Canadians, and Gecko's right by Itaewon station.  It's a popular spot for courting.  The Hard Rock Cafe recently relocated there from its Apgujeong location.  They have a good pulled pork sandwich and a janggu made from a spittoon used by Admiral Yi's great nephew.  Love all, serve all.

If the weather isn't good I would suggest going to COEX.  It's an underground shopping mall.  It's got a Sbarro Pizza and a movie theater.  The Bandi & Luni's bookstore is also a good place to while away the hours.

If it's in Korea, it's Korean as far as I'm concerned.  If they really want a taste something older style, they could visit Nashville Extension while in Itaewon and avoid the crassly commercial ambiance of RMT.  Also, the food at RMT wouldn't be fit for cabin boy swill from the days of shanghaiing and press gangs.

Where do you think I get my haircut?  Nice Guy or Blue Club?  I know what I'm talking about.  The last thing LI's mail order bride is going to be interested in is seeing some trail in the woods.  Especially if she's from Siberia.

Another thread where I'm doing all the heavy lifting.  A Korean art museum...really?  You should be ashamed.

I think Daegu has some Russian bars/lounges, in case she gets a bit homesick. Or that Filipino market in Seoul if that's where she hails from. Can't help if she's from Thailand though.

WELL

There's always Deulmusae (https://ginabearsblog.com/deulmusae-penis-restaurant-in-pocheon/). It's a little out of the way, and the food is mediocre and over-priced, but if your lady friend is here for more than a day and has an open sense of adventure, it could be a fun distraction.

:)

You can also sign up for a ghost tour. I did the one with The Dark Side of Seoul once, it was fun and a lot of the historical info I got from it was interesting.

https://www.darksideofseoul.com/

There's also the Nanta show in Myeongdong, or any other live show, I guess:

https://english.visitseoul.net/culture

If this is your friend's first time in Korea or Seoul, you can do more of the touristy stuff like visiting one of the temples or Gyeongbukgung. There's also a nice shopping area next to Gyeongbukgung (I'm not talking about Insadong, there's another one down the street immediately to the palace's right -- I think it's a much more charming shopping area. Pre-covid, lots of artists sold their wares there. Don't know about now, though.).

Huge list of the typical and a few not-so-typical:
https://www.boboandchichi.com/2017/05/99-fantastic-things-to-do-in-seoul/

I personally enjoyed the prison museum a lot, but it's been a while since I've been.

Obviously sit down at a nice cafe here and there to rest. They do have the gimmicky ones like the Hello Kitty cafe in Hongdae, and apparently there's a toilet themed one somewhere (only heard about it, it's not a place I'd ever visit so I never followed up haha).

But this person lists a few cafes that are legitimately nice, so if you happen to be in those areas:

The last few times I was in Itaewon there were just as many Koreans there, if not more, than foreigners. Let's go to a movie and a bookstore screams lack of imagination.

Go hiking in the fall weather. Where else can you climb a mountain the middle of a big city? Rent bikes and ride along the Han River. Go to Namsan Tower. Got to either the Lotte or Shinsagae department store for the Halloween festivities (I'm guessing here). Go to the big park by City Hall.

But you really have to ask yourself, why am I asking for suggestions when all of this information is at my fingertips?
