My biggest problem, however is that the scoreboards don't work!!!

As a last resort you can insert a blank text field that can be edited during a presentation, you will have to manually calculate the scores, but anything you type in the box should stay for the remainder of the presentation.

http://www.internet4classrooms.com/ppt_type_on_slide.htm

Thank you, that's an excellent idea! I still hope this can be fixed though. My younger grades love counting the points up and down. I make them count in English too or else I won't make the points go up  ;D They love the little sounds it makes too. It'll be less fun for them if I type it out.

Also, for some of the games I added some new slides for points and added music in them. I added music different from sprite06. Can anyone tell me how sprite06 added it? The music stopped working on the problem computer too. Also the way I added it kind of sucks anyways, haha. I just added a midi file into the animation pane.

Usually what I do when I make the ppts is download the mp3 file that I want to use.  Then I add a RIFF header to it with a program called CDex.  That tricks PowerPoint into thinking that the file is a WAV file.  Then I just attach the sound clip to an animation   :cheesy:

Here's a short tutorial - http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/embed_mp3.html

WAV files become so massive so quickly, being able to embed an mp3 in PowerPoint is important.  Make sure that files are being embedded, not just linked to.  If you're just linking to files on your computer, like videos, make sure you keep the video source files in the same folder as the PowerPoint file and just throw it all onto a USB, that should work.

Try just writing down the scores on a piece of paper and writing down the points on the board once the game is over. For example, say team 1 has 3,000 points and team 2 has 4,000 points. After each question say how many points were won and write it down and hold it up for them to see. Than when it is over write them on the board. Good luck with your gaming.

My after school classes changed rooms so I can't use my laptop anymore.

The computer won't let me use macros even though I put all the settings to the lowest levels.

My biggest problem, however is that the scoreboards don't work!!! It's a pain because my students can't keep track of the scores well and it's hard for me to do it because the board is across the room from the computer and if I walk over there to do the points the kids would  run over to the computer and play with it and mess it up =_= I discipline and punish them but they're the type to have some fun and get punished repeatedly rather than be stopped from having their fun =_=

I get the following messages when I open the powerpoints:

컨트롤을 사용할 수 없습니다. (Control cannot be used.)
이 시스템에 등록되지 않은 것 같습니다. (This is not registered in the system??? I'm not 100% sure about this.)
추가 기능 C: Documents and Settings 바탕 화면 EasyFlash.ppa들 로드할 수없습니다. (Add-in EasyFlash.ppa cannot be found in C: Documents and Settings)

Does anyone know where I can download EasyFlash.ppa? I think that'll fix the scoreboard problem.

Is there anything else I can do about the macros? It's already at the lowest settings.

The computer's PowerPoint version is 2007, I think (it has the powerpoint logo at the top right corner which goes to the settings). Whereas I have 2010 on my laptop (no logo, go to File to access settings). Not sure if the difference in versions may be a factor.

Another option is to keep a score board open in a second instance of the game and alt+tab between the two, the scores should never reset as long as you don't leave the scoreboard screen in one instance of the game.

Ah, well if that's the case you can use the scoreboard I made. It's 100% made in powerpoint. If you have a slow machine you should try less teams or erase the 'thousands" digits.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!
My 6th graders loved it. The whole time, they were in awe saying, "how do you make this kind of game??!" My co-teacher was amazed too. she asked me how i made this and of course I couldn't take the credit and told her another English teacher had made it.  ;D She asked me for the game.
The kids had a lot of fun and left happy.

Thank you so much for these games! I love the Pokemon game! I was just testing it out on my computer and a few of my students starting crowding around me transfixed. They want me to play it with them soon. Thank you very much! :)

Why is it that you guys force the installation of a new font? I am not complaining, as it is your design and you can do what you want with it... but if you want everyone to use it, which I am assuming you do since you are posting it here, you may as well use one of the hundreds of already default fonts that comes with Windows.

Am I missing something?

Is this why sometimes my games end up bringing the same slide up, no matter which letter my students choose?

Hope this post isn't coming across the wrong way, because I really, REALLY appreciate what you do. Just curious as to the thought process...

Purely aesthetic?

@picardi00 I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head in that it's an aesthetic thing. Part of the look and feel. If someone is going to spend a lot of time getting the best quality images and sounds for a particular theme, let's say pokemon, then they are probably the type of person that cares enough about the look and feel of things to get the most accurate fonts, or the ones that best support the theme.

The games may look off without the fonts, but it's super easy to change font styles and sizes in a game without breaking the functionality. I think the other point is that most people make the games for their own use, so they are more likely to have their own custom fonts that they like to use. Plus some look different if you make it on a mac and go to pc, or the other way around. So by saying upfront that 'x' font was used in the game and providing a link to it the creator has basically done what they can to make sure their game looks right on other systems. I only use around 3 computers for presenting to classes, plus the one I make everything on, so it's not that hard for me to have the fonts ready. I can see how it'd be annoying for people that have to change rooms for every class though.

You and Daejeon probably get enough praises. The games you both have made are definitely off the hook.

My only question regarding the Pokemon game is how come come the teams' levels don't go down when they lose points?

For example, when the teams have minus points, their levels are still the same. I think I'm asking a VB Script question.

I am interested in making some of my own PPT games, but I don't know where to find the resources. E.g. where do you find the video and sound clips and the images for the likes of DBZ, Batman, Yugioh etc. to use for your particular PPT?

I appreciate the kind words.

The scoreboard issue on the Pokemon game was just an oversight in the code I believe.

You're very welcome.  I hope it worked out for you.

I pool resources from a number of different places.  Actually, if you can't find enough high quality images, it may not even be worth making because it will be a struggle.

Places like wallbase.cc, Deviant Art, Google images, etc. for specific images.  Icons you can usually just Google search.

Can anyone give a step by step procedure for making these bomb games? I'm just starting to get better at this PPT stuff. Today my co-teacher showed me a PPT that was similar to a bomb game but without the bomb. It was made by my school's previous NET and he was there for four years. He used it for teaching the general material and I had a similar idea because he was using K-Pop stars like I wanted to but my idea was less developed. Anyhow, can anyone explain this and about how long it should take? Thanks a lot. *Update below*

Actually, after writing this I was able to hyperlink one slide to another but I am still unsure of how get the letters to disappear after clicking on them on the main board.

@Lawrence

If you want the selection object to disappear you need to use triggers. For example make a shape like a circle or a square. You can add the hyperlink now if you want. What you need to do is select the object and assign it an exit animation. The animation should be set to go on a mouse click. When you find that exit animation in the animation list double click on it. In the second tab you need to set the animation to activate using a trigger, it's near the bottom of the box under all the timer settings. Set the trigger to be the object itself. This means that when you click the object it triggers the exit animation and the hyperlink. The hyperlink takes priority so it takes you to the slide you selected. You should have a hyperlink back to the question selection slide. When you click that and arrive back the animation that you previously triggered by selecting the question will trigger and the object will disappear.

It is common to keep your level even when you lose all experience.  This is true in all computer or console games I have played.

Ah yes, thank you very much. It took a little while but I understand now. Unfortunately this is all very time consuming but it is good to know.

@Lawrence after you make the first one you just copy paste it, and change the hyperlink. Or Try this: http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,57828.0.html someone made a bomb game maker, so it sets up that stuff for you.

What sound files are used for the bomb's in these bomb games? On PPT 2007 I see that I can add some bomb sound effects but are those  the same ones used for the games? I know it's not a big deal and I can just choose but I was wondering if there was something else that people were using. It sound like the "large bomb explosion" is the one that is used.
