Grade 3 Lesson 11 Who is he? (YBM)
« Reply #2 on: November 04, 2011, 02:44:02 pm »
For the first period I shown a video using Gogo's Adventures with English

Since we're teaching about pronouns, I also used this worksheet.  With the help of my co-teacher, she translated on the board

* he       * him
* she     * her
* we      * us
* they    * them
* it

Then, I used a board game from http://esl-kids.com for Family.
The vocabulary I used was:
Q: Who is (s)he?
A: (S)he is my mother/father/brother/sister/grandma/grandpa.

For Period 2, I have a worksheet prepared, which you can download.

I used the mystery box game template. Some of these pics and slides are from Grade 5 Lesson 13 but I modified it for this lesson.

I added a couple of extra slides from JC49.

Here's an intro with the images from the CD/Textbook.

I plan to make or modify a game with these pics also, to keep it consistent. Will post when I can. There are 4 pages of the PPT that are of my family at the very end. So please delete.

Enjoy!

Here's a modified slap game idea: The original version uses a hard projector screen and fly swatters or plastic hammers.

At one of my schools, we do not have a projector, only TVs connected to our computers. So, a fun slap game isn't possible (we can't hammer on the large TV screens ;D).

Here's a modified version of the slap game I'm going to use for Lesson 2:

Students are divided into 2 teams.
There is a manual bell in between the two opponents. (maybe on a desk)
A picture is shown on the screen (or a few numbered pictures)
The teacher will either just show the picture and the students' race to hit the bell; the student who hits the bell must answer correctly (or)
The pictures are numbered and the teacher will state "He is my father," and the students must say the corresponding number or vice versa.

I hope this helps someone! ^^

copied jeonjuhustle's ppt and expanded it a little, to practice slightly different vocab. Be warned: my father, my mother, and my brother are my family members

Introduce family member / adjective words. I modified one of files from here.
I put more family picture and make it simple.

When you introduce family members, you can use your own family picture. Students really love this.
(I don’t want to explain ‘ugly’ for ugly looking people. So I use good looking people when they make their ugly face.)

Hi there I made a PPT for the Lesson 11 period 3 role-play - Peter Pan and Wendy.

It may come in handy for listen and repeat or for when students actually do the role-play. I'm going to give it a whirl tomorrow.   8)

I used some of the PPTs posted above to make my own PPT for part 2 of the lesson. The "Who is He?" PPT reviews the names for family and introduces the adjectives. The pirate game uses the pirate game template to practice the key phrases with the students.

Usually when I play this game, I break the whole class up into three teams (I have on average only 27 students).

For this game, I'd say to Team 1, "He is my father." Then they have to choose a word to make a sentence about Homer, for example, "He is tall." After they get their points or whatever, they have to say the first sentence to Team 2, for example, "She is my sister." And then Team 2 should respond with a sentence about Lisa. And so on.

Edit: I forgot to add "tall" and "short" to the PPT. Whoops. It's been added and re-uploaded.

"Find the Monkey" game using key phrases.  The goal is to find which panel the monkey is hiding behind.  Each team chooses a panel by saying the key phrase.  The teacher clicks on the panel and it reveals what is behind.  The team that "discovers" the monkey gets a point.  I modified an existing game that my CT had - not sure who made it so my apologies for not giving proper credit to the creator.

I changed those key-words for the new chapter and used this PPT in the period 4 as a group writing activity.
