Glad I am not the only one doing Cheonjae books. Anyone else using these books for the new semester?

This is just a very basic power point that I will use to introduce 5-1.1, and then use for review at the beginning of 5-1.2

The other Cheonjae book (Frances Sohn)  starts with pretty much the same thing. You could pull some ideas from this thread too...

or the 6th grade(Daegyo) book

Hello everyone,

I have attached a X O (true or false game) I have modified for this book. Please complete the last slide if you do so feel the need. I had mine and my co-teacher's info in the last with funny pictures. We have hand held X 0

I am glad I am not the only sad person who has to use these books this year and start greatly modifying materials. Good luck to all of us.

Grade 5 Lesson 1 I'm From Korea. worksheet

I feel like I need to give back to everyone here after all the great lessons I see up here the power points are good too. I also feel a bit bad for always putting dumb comments up. Sorry about that I will try to do that on other web pages that are not as helpful and altruistic as this one.

Here's a PPT I will use.
Includes: Animaniacs countries clip (embedded), and a hidden flag game.
You'll have to edit slide 4 for yourself unless you want to include me in your lesson  :D

For hidden game, countries are: France, Korea, USA, China, U.K., Japan, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa

For this lesson, I divided the class into teams. Before class I had printed the different flags and cut them out to make smaller cards. I then made two piles of cards that I put on the desk at the end of the class (each pile has all the flags).

The students then will ask me "Where are you from?". I will answer and then one student from each team needs to get the flag from that country. The first team to get the right flag gets a point and then the team with the most points wins at the end.

The students take turns to try and find the flag, when they are finished they go to the back of the line and then it is the next student's turn. I also use the winning student to then answer the other students "where are you from?" question. The winning student will reply "I'm from *country name*".

Here are 2 simple ppts that I will use for period 1 and 2 to introduce the expressions and then to review.  They are nothing fancy but they work well for my students.

No I believe that's from the other Cheonjae book by Frances Sohn. Some of the lessons are similar though (such as this one) so we can use each others materials.

Thanks for the review, Poppy!  I love simple powerpoints.

Here's the simple one I used to introduce the key expressions and vocab.

I also made small cards with a country flag on each.  Give a set of cards to each group of students.  The Ss lay the cards face down on the table.   S1 points to a card.  S2 picks up that card and asks, "Where are you from?"  S1 makes a guess and says "I'm from China."  If S2 is correct and there is a Chinese flag on the card, S2 keeps the card.  If not, the card is returned to the table.  I made sets of 12 cards (6 different flags) and groups of 6-7 students, but it can easily be adjusted.

I quick note for those that plan to use this PPT - the flag listed for England is the St. George cross version (the one used in the 1100s).  As it also represents England alone (no Ireland, etc), I'm guessing the original creator chose the St. George version to make a political statement :)  Could be wrong...
