My first contribution to waygook! I'm posting because my CoT loved this activity. It's like the only one she's ever verbally expressed appreciation of

So I took the Today is Monday video/song and made 14 cards. 7 cards say each day of the week and 7 cards say the food that's associated with it in the song.

1. First, the students receive a card and listen to the song to discover their match. "Monday, strings beans."
2. After the song, students stand up and try to find their partner (Students with Monday card look for students with string beans card, Tuesday looks for Spaghetti, etc.)
3. Students sit down with their new partner and we listen to the song a second time.
4. When the students' day/food appears in the song, they sing that part "Thursday, roast beef."

If you have more than 14 students, just double up. You can have groups of 3 or even 4 singing "Saturday, chicken!" etc.

Hope this helps someone! And that I gave a clear explanation...

A Very Hungry Caterpillar:
-Students cut and paste the pictures into the booklet as they listen to the story.

Snatch Game:
-These cards are from a post in the old book.  They are not mine, but I they are great for a simple time filler.
-Students ask the teacher: "What day is it today?"  Teacher answers, "It's _____."  Students have to snatch that card before their partner does.

Here are two activities I will be using, but they are not my templates.  My apologies to the original creators!  I found them in the old textbook thread, modified them, and then made simple PPTs for explanation.  Nothing too exciting or original but there's not a lot of other material posted yet for this lesson.  Hope it can help somebody when they plan!!

Spinner Game:
-You need: a copy of the spinner for each set of partners in the class, paper clips, and metal brads to make the spinners.
-Students take turns spinning, speaking the key expressions together after each spin.
-After each spin, the student marks the day on their scorecard.
-The first student to mark all the days off their scorecard is the winner.

Flick Game:
-You need: game pieces to flick or have the students use their erasers.
-Students take turns flicking the marker on the board.  After each flick they speak the key expressions with their partner.
-After each flick the student marks that land as their "territory".
-The student with the most "land" at the end of the game is the winner.

Attached is the intro ppt I used to start this class.
A majority of my students know their weekdays really well. So I used this just to introduce the few key sentences and days of the week for the lower level students. It has basic days of the week plus Korean translations, plus some fun little Korean sayings to help them remember the names. My co teacher gave me those from a previous ppt she had.

I then used this weekday song. Yes it's fast, but my grade fours LOVE to sing. Let them listen to it once and they had damn near 80% memorized.
They demanded we sing it several times before we moved on.

*might make another ppt that covers months of the year since they did so well with days of the week.

Read or Die - Simple reading game.  All students stand-up.  They go down the line saying one word each.  If they are too slow or land on a red word they sit down.  It can last between 5 to 15 minutes depending on how many rounds you want to play.

I have Hangman (edited from someone else's template). It's a bit inelegant in terms of the triggers, but should not make too much of a big difference.

Nothing fancy, just a worksheet for the end of the lesson. The first two sections are for listening so you just choose whatever answers you prefer.

When I tried to teach my first grade four class the rules for the Period 2 game it failed horribly.
So I made this ppt to help while I acted out how to play with one of the kids.
Tried it on my other two grade four classes today and it worked wonders!

I've been using materials from waygook for awhile so I figured I'd try to upload something of my own.

I made a matching game for Period 1 using the dialogue from Look & Listen.

Found the template some where on this site, so props to the original creator.

It's nothing fancy but should work if you have an extra 5 or 10 minutes left at the end of class.

So I took the Today is Monday video/song and made 14 cards. 7 cards say each day of the week and 7 cards say the food that's associated with it in the song.

1. First, the students receive a card and listen to the song to discover their match. "Monday, strings beans."

Hope this helps someone! And that I gave a clear explanation...

Thanks for the idea CurlyQue! Last year I couldn't figure out what to do with the song so my students just learned to sing the song. I tried this in class today as our listening activity for part 1, and it was a huge hit!

Here's how I did it:

1. Play the song so the students can listen (don't show the video).
2. Give each student a card and tell them they cannot speak once they've received the card.
3. Play the song again and the students walk around and quietly try to find their matching food/day partners. When they are sure they have formed their group they come to the teacher and the teacher seats each group in their seating section (they sit in order of the days).
4. Watch the video and sing the song as CurlyQue did. Except whenever it was "All you hungry children come and eat it up" all of the students sang together.

I have 24-26 students per class so I created 2 cards for each day and 2 cards for each food. Then, I took out as many cards as necessary to match the number of students in the class. When I did this, I made sure that I wasn't taking out both a Monday and a string beans card (only one from each group). I've attached the cards I made for anyone who would like to use them! I just printed a color set of these then glued them to thick construction paper before cutting them to hand out. That way I can use them for all my classes.

Great idea! However my co, as usual with any idea I have, didn't like it so I couldn't teach it. Just needed to rant.

To get students motivated you could try Friday I'm in Love. The students won't understand much, just tell them to listen out for the days of the week and put their hands up when they hear one. They love the song (as they should!).
