Lesson plan for 4.13.1

Lesson includes: textbook video, currencies of the world, online shopping, textbook activity, guess the price textbook game
Notes: Check the currencies. I tried to include money from everyone's country but I may have missed some or used pictures of old money or the wrong money. Also unhide the slides.
You are welcome to change the online shopping website to one that you are more familiar with.

Lesson plan for 4.13.2

Lesson includes: textbook video, O/X review game, textbook activities, notes, textbook game
Notes: minimal prepwork: make a note of the prices for the O/X game. O/X game: you say a price and the students have to guess whether or not you are telling the truth)

Lesson plan for 4.13.3

Lesson includes: winter flower game (hangman but instead of drawing a person, I draw a five-petalled flower using MS powerpoint's pen and remove a petal with the eraser for each incorrect letter), textbook activities, let's go to market textbook game
Notes: fair bit of prepwork required: message the homeroom teachers to get them to tell the students to bring in a small, solid toy to be used during the market game. You will also need to do up some price cards with the amounts $1~$20.

Lesson plan for 4.13.4

Lesson includes: textbook video, sleeping elephants game, textbook check up, textbook video on p142
Notes: zero prepwork. The sentences for the sleeping elephants game came from scenes 1, 3, 5 & 7 of the first video if you want to highlight those before you do the game.

Here's an intro ppt and an updown guessing game I found on waygook, thansk to the original creator.
For motivation, I used a video of the song, "How Much is the Doggie in the Window"

Here's a warm up video about how people in different countries count cash.  There are a couple spelling mistakes in the video, but when we used it last year the kids really loved it!

Lesson 13 How Much is it? Introductory PPT

Key words and expressions with Korean Translation. I also used the pictures from the text.
My kids were following numbers really well and asked me about counting larger numbers. So there's that.
There is also an added simplified introduction of ₩ - $.
I also added in the different currency slides from my grade six lessons.
I only have a quick run through of the Game in the text because my kids also wrote a performance assessment at the beginning of the lesson, thus we only used the game for a really quick review at the end.

I don't suppose anyone can find a clip from the American game show "The Price is Right" to use as motivation to start the lesson.  It would be awesome to start the class with a clip and then play the game.

Here's a worksheet/game. First I'll have them fill in the blanks (name of the item and the number for the price). Then they can play the game. They go to other students and say "I want a bla bla bla, how much is it?" the other student says the price "It's blabla dollars" then they rock paper scissors. If the student who asks the question wins, they write the other student's name in the right column. That's who they bought it from. They continue until their sheet is full.

Someone mentioned "The Price Is Right?"

Well come on and download I have the Price is Right.

A few of the prices will get the kids to think big with their prices.

The price is right has videos online for all of their games.

For example: Countdown

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jP99cV3O5U

You can find all of the videos on their website.

Showtime missing words.

Edit: I noticed a mistake on one of the slides.  If you have downloaded this you might want to fix it.  (It's a fill in the blank on the section that should have all the words).

I've edited the ppt now.

I borrowed a Price is Right PPT from another poster and edited to play out a little differently. All the students (or teams if you wish) get whiteboards. Each round, the teacher yells out, "How much is it?" and the students read the PPT and reply. After they reply, they are given 3 items. They must choose which item matches the price and write down the item's name. There are also bonus rounds where the class much guess the actual price of the item. The student with the closest guess (without going over) gets the bonus points.

Materials I used last year. Not all are original.

1.  Guess the currency game for culture. I'm also bringing in currency I've accumulated from travels so they could pass around and look.

2. Catchy (but fast) song with a PPT and a document so students can change the word and make their own song.

3. Practice counting dollars and speed game.

4. Fake money if you want to print and use for role play activities

Here's a game I created for the 1st period that I call
"Pass the Ball & Guess the Price Game".

Split the class up into groups, and have each group pass a ball around among themselves. When the music stops, the person with the ball will be the team representative and has to stand up.

I then played a "higher or lower" game with the standing students. I picked a student at random to try to guess how much the item on the screen costs by answering "It's ____ dollars", told them if the real price was higher or lower, then had the next student guess. The student who ended up guessing the exact price got a point for their team.

You could play this game other ways too. One idea that came to mind would be "Price is Right" style, where you could have each standing student guess the price before revealing the answer and awarding the point to the student who was closest without going over.

The prices and items that I put in the ppt are all real that I got off of amazon.com, so you can tell them that to make it more interesting  ;D

Enjoy, it was a hit with my classes!

Here's my PPT for part 3.

Pass the mystery bags (money in one bag and item in the second)

There is an extra bit for the reading, the slides are hyperlinked so don't move them around if you want to use it.

Paper change game- students practice the dialogue and exchange papers. After the time is up, choose papers at random for the winners. (there's a link for a wheel decide website- you can edit it to your class)

Warmup game for P3 or P4 -

Have Ss practice "How much is the _______?" and "It's _________ dollars" by flashing a toy or a price tag across the screen. If a student can identify the item/price, they must provide the whole sentence (e.g. "How much is the robot?") to get a point/candy.
