I'll be using this for second period, which introduces ____ thousand won.
Speaking practice for different prices, some shopping dialogue and some pictures of US and Canadian money at the end.

So here's what I have. PPTs organized by period.

-Period 1: Dress-up Avengers is what it sounds like. Have the teams ask for a price, and the whole class responds. Click on the clothing to put it on the character, click on the hammer to go back to team 1.

-Period 2: Review and Price-is-Right game. I updated some other Waygook materials to make this PPT, so all proper thanks to those beautiful fabulous human beings.

-Period 3: I had the students play this game on a plain 9-square bingo card.

-Period 4 version 1: I had planned this for an open class, but although fun it was too messy to use in that context. The review is the Sparkle game, in which all students stand up, each student reads one word of a sentence, and the student after the last word sits down. For the main activity I gave each group a bag of clothes, had them put down prices for each item, then go around and "buy" items from other teams. Afterwards each group chose a "fashion model"to display/describe an outfit, and the class chose their favorite group and says what clothing they liked best. Fun, but chaotic.

-Period 4 version 2: This class had two activities. First, I had the students pass plastic cups down the line of desks using a simplified version of the Pitch Perfect cups pattern (tutorials on youtube), then make conversations with their partner to guess the hidden price of the item pictured on their cup. For the final Black Friday activity, I gave each group of four one article of clothing and had them choose a price. Then I had one student from each group get up, run around the class, and ask the price of as many other groups as they could in 30 seconds. We played four rounds to give each group member a chance, and the "clerks" handed out small squares of paper to the "shoppers" to keep track of each conversation.

Here's a review ppt and guessing the price game where students must read a price off the screen and the teachers clicks the price to see if there is a smiley face behind it. Feel free to give out point for finding the smiley. These material are made from old threads -so thanks to the original makers.

Here's a Mystery Shop game I'm planning on doing with the Grade 4s during the third or fourth period. The rules are explained in the PowerPoint. You can use the fake money (just have them write in the proper amounts) and the item cards from the back of the students' textbooks for the game :)

I wrote a simple, fun restaurant song to teach 'Can I please have a/some ____' but it also drills 'how much is it?' - maybe some teachers will find it helpful.

I made this for a grade 5 lesson and it worked well, so I've adapted it for this lesson. It's a bingo game in which students walk around doing the dialogue "I want this ____. How much is it?"... "It's xxx won", where xxx is the number in "My Shop". The student who asked the price then finds the item with the right price on their bingo board and writes the other's name on it (or they could just circle it if you don't want to check the winners' boards).

Someone (I'm sorry, I don't remember who) made an excellent PowerPoint for 5th grade about money. I edited it to make it fit this lesson and added a link to the Big Numbers song which went over really well with the kids.

Thank you so much for making and sharing these, starting a class is always a little tricky for me and throwing these on to introduce the lesson makes it so much easier.

Really appreciate it :)

These powerpoints are not my creation, I adapted them from another thread. So thank you to the creators.

Psy goes shopping is a practice powerpoint for counting money and vocabulary. English Drop is a warm-up scramble activity.

My students know a lot of terms from our market day at school, so I also taught the words "cheap" and "expensive" etc.

This is an easy vocab review game that can be modified for any lesson at all. Students each get one strip of paper and fill in each square with a vocab word. The teacher calls out a vocab word, ex. "How much is this hat?" If a student has the word hat on either end of the strip, they may tear off that square. If not, they have to wait. First student who has one square left is the winner.
