DAEKYO 이재근 5th Grade, Lesson 2 - What's your favorite subject?

Here's an intro that I made for part 2 (I only teach at the school part time so my co introduced the lesson).

It has a list of all the elementary school subjects in English and Korean and the key expressions for the lesson.

My CoT wanted a bit more speaking and a bit more writing.  So I made two activities: in the Stand Up game, during a round each team is assigned a subject.  When the picture of their subject flashes up, they must all stand up and say "My favorite subject is so-and-so!" In each round, teams get a different subject.  If you have six teams, add a team six according to the last slide. REMOVED

The other activity is writing key sentences using the famous people in period 3.  They have to match up the key words and write sentences.  REMOVED

"What's behind game"

It's usually used for reading, but I'm going to use it in period 5 and get the kids to write their sentences. Modified from something I downloaded from another thread - credit to the original maker.

for 5th period, i modified a ppt i found by bawaugh here: http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,31758.msg222102.html#msg222102

here is his explanation:

Quote
I did Human Sentences. (There may be a more usual name for this game).

The class is divided into two teams white and blue. Each team member is given a word such as my or new. When a sentence is shown they then race to the front to complete the sentence in order. The first team to get the sentence filled wins that round.

eg. This is my ___ Nemo ____
This is my fish Nemo .(Period)

The .period (OK Full stop for those of us such as me who came from full stop land) is also included to help them remember to use it. They will require explanation for this fact in Korean. I also recommend that you get your co teacher to supervise one team of students  while you supervise the other this will help things a lot. In addition remember to change the picture of the teacher to another one.

My froth graders had good fun with this lesson and I hope to use variants in other classes. This game should take about 15 minutes of class time including explanation.

i changed the ppt to suit this chapter, and tried to make it a little more simple for the kids to understand.  when we played the actual game, we separated the class in half into Team A and Team B instead of naming the teams after colors.

also, if you want to slip some writing in there, you can also hand out half sheets of paper and dictate which kids will write down which word.  since my students are sitting in numerical order it was easy to do, but if you would rather print out the word cards yourself, that's fine too but i didn't make any.

also, the font is free from here: http://www.dafont.com/kg-miss-speechy-ipa.font

hope this helps someone~

Here's a worksheet for the chapter...My co-teacher made the first page and I just added a word search, bingo and dialogue for the second page. I couldn't figure out how to merge them into one document so you have to print them separately.

Introduction of all the key expressions in this chapter with plenty of practice at the end.

Also attached is a PPT for the Look and Listen section of the textbook that goes through all of the dialogue to read together as a class. Can be used on its own but I use it to go with a listen and gap-fill exercise that's part of the worksheet my co-teacher likes to use, also attached.

Here's an updated Human Sentence/Super sentence game. The last slide is cards to hand out, I split the class in two and printed two sets of cards. Each student gets one card.

As each sentence comes up they have to rush to the front to hold up their card in the blank space. First student to do so gets a point for their team.

Filled up 10-15 minutes.
