10 Car Racing Game
- Can be used for any period in this chapter. You are more than welcome to change the pictures suit your student's needs. Just click on the cars and they will move.

10.6 Classroom contest
- A project you can use with your students. Similar to what the book has. Students are selected from each group to take part in each round. They have to compete. Then the groups make a sentences ".... is (comparative) than ..."


I used all this material with my old book (see above link) and the students loved it.

My materials for this lesson:
Period 1 - a short review of some adjectives with gifs before cracking the textbook.  The 'compare" ppt has a brief section on constructing comparactives, making sentences, and ends with a stand-up-sit-down game. I also have a worksheet I've modified from someone else (lost in the mists of time) comparing people.  REMOVED
Period 2 - a logic game in which students read the sentences then write their own sentences about who is faster, taller, etc on a whiteboard. REMOVED
Period 3 - a warm-up based on remembering the Look and Say from period 2.  Then a modified form of Place Your Bets--not about grammar or spelling, but is the comparativee true or false. REMOVED
Period 4 - What Is It? A team reads aloud 4 comparative statements about some object or thing (dolphin, apple, smartphone ...) The other teams write their guess about what is being described on a whiteboard.  Teams that guess correctly earn a point.  If a team guesses wrong, the group that read the slide gets the point.  REMOVED
Period 5 & 6 -  I liked Rufus's car racing posted by epgarcia above (Thanks!) but 16 questions isn't enough for my classes, so I beefed it up somewhat and put numbers on the cars... REMOVED
I also have a funny or interesting superlatives ppt I made, with a worksheeet to fill-in, about largest animal, longest hot dog, richest man, etc.  REMOVED

Mr. C's ppt guessing game was really interesting, however it was a little too hard/confusing for my students so I modified it to make it a little easier.

Here are two games.
The first I used in period three. It contains 18 adjective-comparative adjective pairs. With lower level students, I would recommend using it as a simple matching game done in groups. With more confident students, you can use these cards for a Go Fish style game in which you would ask for the card that matches yours. So if a student has a card that says "Good," that student would ask, "Do you have "Better"? It might work well to do matching first and then do Go Fish, moving from an activity in which the students pool their knowledge to one in which students have to rely on individual knowledge.

The second game I will use in 5th period. I'll split the class into teams and have each team send a representative to me or my coteacher. We will read the incorrect sentence as many times as necessary. Then the student tell the sentence to the group where they will right down a correct sentence. Then they will send a different student back to me or my coteacher to say the correct sentence and receive a new incorrect sentence. The fastest team wins. Of course, you can also just use these as a work sheet or you could make it a read-speak-write game by ps instead of a listen-speak-write-speak game.

A couple things I used for this lesson:

Baskin Robbins 31 reading game: I just modified a template and put in sentences the students learned so far in periods 1-4. Thanks to the original creator!

Typhoon writing game: I got this template from another thread with a similar topic. I deleted many of the slides and modified the rest to make this a regular white board team game. The directions are fairly straightforward in slides 2 and 3.

For the 'you decide' slides, I had each group choose and write their sentence. The majority ruled: so if 3 teams wrote one sentence, and 2 teams wrote the other, the majority sentence was then the 'correct' answer. But, to get the points, the teams had to have both the 'correct' answer and have correct spelling and punctuation.

Feel free to modify the slides or rules as you see fit! 

I really liked Mr. C's worksheet comparing people. I didn't think my students would recognize Bob the builder and I wasn't sure about Alice so I changed it to Suho from Exo and Elsa.
