My turn to give some back.

I tweaked one of the mario games for this lesson.  There are a lot of graphics that I added so it's even larger.  I had to use my harddrive to transfer it to our classcomputer.

I went a little more indepth with modal verbs with my students so there are some questions that are not as simple as will you help me please.

I've attached a worksheet.  The first part i didn't use this time...but I made my kids study page 2.  The only problem is i don't think my coteacher understands modals very well so her explanation sounds a little weird to me.  We'll see if my kids understood it.  the other side I did to provide a simple english explanation.

I'll also attach some materials I got from my TEFL lessons for this lesson.

hope this helps.

Hi,

I have also made a Mario Game using Sally's template. It is far simpler then the earlier posting. Enjoy

This is a rather remedial exercise for students to practice basic conversation on the lesson topic and review vocabulary from previous lessons.  The lyrics to the song "Help" are also included.

Here is a PPT I made that introduces 'will' as a modal verb.  Then it compares 'can' for ability and 'can' for requesting.

It's really hard to explain the difference between 'can' and 'will'.  'Can' is requesting and 'will' is asking for a favor.  There's such a similarity that the only question I could think of that you can't use 'can' is "Will you marry me?"  So, I used this well-known phrase and showed two funny videos on it.

Then I used a PPT from Mediafire repeating the sentence "Will you help me please?"  Then I printed out the sentences from this PPT and cut them up into 8 pieces.  The students worked in pairs to put together the sentences, memorize it, and then say it to the teacher.  With two teachers we quickly went around the room. The students got one chance to say the sentence correctly.  If they did it correctly they win.  Then they switched cards and did it again.

I just wanted to clarify, for the battleship game did you have the same student ask and answer the question?

Thanks! :)

Yes, the same student should ask and answer in one turn. sorry, it can be confusing to explain without a demonstration. hope this helps. let me know if there are any other questions.  :D

this lesson is really boring and dry...so much so that it was difficult even coming up with questions for games!
here's a blockbuster game (from rufus' template) that i managed to crank out. games 1 and 2 repeat the questions.

I made a stand up game for this. I printed cards from the ppt (6 slides to a page) and cut them out. In my classes I usually have 3 teams so I made 3 sets of cards.

For the game each student gets 2 or 3 cards. I read out the sentence for the game then show them the slide on the game ppt. The student with the same card has to stand up, show the card to me and give the appropriate answer. The fastest team gets 1 point. They don't get any points if they don't speak or don't stand up.

This game takes a little bit of extra preparation in advance (making the cards) but is always a successful game - I play it with all grades (3-6) and they all like it.

I have also included a ppt which I used to introduce some of these sentences.

Thank you so much everyone for posting your games. I have a question about the Mario Games, both the one with added graphics and the simpler one.  There is no way to return to the main board for the next team to choose a box.  Am I missing a rule or point to the game?  Please let me know.  Thank you so much!

I played this game with my 6th graders yesterday. I was SO surprised it worked for my classes since the students usually can't or won't do anything other than shout out answers to bomb/mario games. I also like how there is no shortcut or cheating to this game since students are motivated to win by using the key sentences. Usually they will circle random things or copy each other if I hand out any worksheets or paper activities.

In short, thanks for creating this!
