2019 Grade 6 Cheonjae 2 - 2. I Have a Cold
« on: March 04, 2019, 12:49:47 pm »
This lesson is similar to: 2. I Have a Headache. from the 2015 book.
"The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword."

Here's a slightly edited intro from the above one.

I added backache and some slides for asking/answering. Also, has a slide for Flu but if your kids are low-level, it is probably confusing.

I've also put up a connect 4 template.

Intro PPT - I made a template using My Hero Academia and a large number of characters. Introduces words through Dialogue with the nurse character in the series at beginning, then uses words from other PPTS and questions/practice at end. Lots of animations.

An intro PPT and several games taken from previous versions of the book and updated for 2019. The Connect 4 game I'm including focuses more on giving advice rather than stating the symptoms. Be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more files for the later parts of the lesson.

All Periods Intro: Pretty self explanatory. (Ideal for all periods)

Connect 4 game: Divide the class into 2 teams (Red VS Blue), students have to state their symptom or advice in order to place their teams colour marker in the square. (Ideal for the second period)

Telepathy game: Two sentences are shown on the screen & students use their telepathic powers to choose the correct sentence to write on their score sheet, also uploading a score sheet to go along with it if you need it. (Ideal for the third or fifth period)

Baskin Robbins 31 game: Students play in pairs, taking turns reading either 1, 2 or 3 boxes. Whoever reads box 31 is the loser. (Ideal for the fourth period)
"Have you seen what the sith are wearing? It's like every fashion designer in the galaxy went over to the dark side."

Sleeping elephants.

A couple of the sentences are from the 4th lesson. Some have picture clues instead as grade 6 needs more challenge.

Here is a coin flick game. I am using it for period 3, but it would work in other periods. I actually got the pictures from period 2, so maybe period 2 would be better. I changed the game from another game we had with our old book (which wasn't this company), so it was done on Publisher. I will also attach a pdf.

After watching the story in period 3, we are going to listen to this old "Little Red Riding Hood" song with Betty Boop cartoon. I remember my dad playing this song for me as a kid, and he would sing and play guitar along with it! This is best for period 3 because the story is Little Red Riding Hood.

My students enjoyed the Murder Handshake game from the old textbook thread so I changed the dialogue for this lesson.

Hope you enjoy it.

1) Board game I found from another book on here and edited slightly. If you're using dice, remove the rules part about rock-paper-scissors.
For each group, they'll need one of the sets of cards plus the board printed/cut.

2) Ladder/slide reading/speaking activity I found the other day. It's extremely easy to adapt to any key phrases.
Print the first slide and the rest of them show how to play.

First team/student reads one of the sentences at the top, then they trace down the slide to see how many points they get on the bottom. After that, they draw 3 lines.

Second student/team does same (pick sentence, get points,  draw 3 lines). And repeat.

Made a disappearing dialogue for the 2.2 Real Talk on the CD. Themed as Mystery Science Theater 3000, mainly for my own amusement and it looking like more than just the screenshot.

Also here is a virus game using key expressions. When the students review the pictures/vocab words at the beginning, you can number and write them on the board - I have the flu, I have a cold, I have a fever, etc. Those become the numbered sentences for the viruses.

How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon - reading PPT. I took the animated Scholastic youtube video reading the story in Spanish, turned it into gifs and added captions for each gif with the story in English. You can read the story and have the students repeat, then concept check the story at the end.

Added in Google Drive since the file size is so large with so many big gifs - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gzjLSu6dJCRhq--LSAUpeC6d1ny2R78y/view?usp=sharing

Here are some of the things I've done for this lesson:

I used the Avengers Game for the first period of the lesson. I took it from one of the old threads and edited it to fit some of the different things from period 1.

The RPS game I did is ALWAYS a crowd pleaser with students. I used it for period 4 Print off all the slides. Before doing anything, I make the students all read each slide together. I then split the class into two teams and move all the desks to the side of the room. I lay the phrases on the ground in a line with the two teams at opposite ends. One student from each team starts reading (out loud) down the line of phrases. When they meet, they do rock, paper, scissors. The loser goes to the end of the line and the winner keeps going until met again.

I used the Mission Impossible Wall Dictation game for period 5. The PPT explains how to play. It's quite a bit of fun. Set up the paper in different parts of the room for them to run to.

Made an activity called "Create a Virus." Students design their own virus (name, drawing, symptoms, and a prescription of what to do to make it better, as well as where their virus begins infecting people, if it's deadly, and who it attacks) as mad scientists. Then, based on where the virus begins, the students can introduce their virus and try to decide which one is the strongest/which will spread all over the world.

The word doc has two worksheets per page and is printed front and back.

Here is a link to the PPT online lessons I've built. They should be able to be uploaded into an LMS (the online hosting sites the students use to retrieve materials from their teachers) and be played through. Suggest saving each as a PPT show prior to uploading so the students can only play it and not manipulate the text inside. I'm leaving the PPTX files so if you need to manipulate anything in them to adjust to your classes levels, you can.

I made two PPTs with my voice over for lesson two. I made a similar one for lesson one. I took the PPTs from the book and I recorded my voice over the slides. The music is royalty free music from  bensounds.com.

If you would like to use this PPT and record your own voice, from the first slide my voice over is the speaker on the right. You can delete those and then record your voice. On the first slide, the speaker for the music is on the left. It is set to play at the lowest volume on a loop for the entire presentation. If you want to keep the music, don't delete the left speaker on the first slide!

Korean English Teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice for your school.

If you need to change the PPT to a video, you can use the export feature to to convert it to a mp4, however, it doesn't work with all versions of Office. The version of Office must have a subscription in order to use this feature.
