Here are the subtitles for Remember The Titans:

http://gom.gomtv.com/jmdb/view.html?intSeq=1803&preface=0&spage=1

Click download. Then you can simply drag the SMI file into the GOM player as you're playing the movie and they should pop up right away.

It mostly depends on the movie file that you download, but if you aren't able to read the Korean subtitles to make sure they're the right ones for your movie file, you might be able to ask a co-teacher for help to make sure it syncs. But there are a ton of different subtitles so remember to double-check to make sure they're the right ones for your file!

I enjoy showing the triplettes of bellview to drive home a stereotype/americana lesson.  Always works out great and the lack of speaking just makes it more accessable to all cultures.

My HS kids have all loved Despicable Me! I was also thinking 10 things I hate about you, Clueless, The Blind Side (at this rate we can make an American Football camp!) and Legally Blonde.

I would really like to show my kids Highschool Musical 2 but I can't seem to find a copy that works with Korean subtitles. I tried the GomTv that others suggested but I can't find a proper torrent to go with it.

Does anyone know where I can find it???  :'(

Personally I thought 'Remember the Titans' was a TERRIBLE movie.

It took every cliche from every single underdog movie ever written and cranked up the cheesiness to levels I'd never witnessed before. Truly two of the most wasted hours I've ever spent. If the kids are anything like the ones I teach they'll be asleep within half an hour.

Dumb and dumber would be good though...

I agree, Remember the Titans is a wonderful movie to show students for the aforementioned reasons.  However, if you just want to show a funny comedy, I recommend Happy Gilmore or Dumb and Dumber. Pure gold in my classes.

Best movie to show to either elementary school students or adults is "Kung Fu Panda!" There is nothing better to motivate students than the panda!

you can go to emart and buy movies that are in english or korean.   i used the movie Cars for winter camp and taught a couple of fun lesson about transportation before hand.  the students recieved points for a game if they could point out types of transportation or specific types of vehicles during the movie.  i showed it in english with korean subtitles.  just an idea.

Better still go to one of the stalls in the street or in the subway stations for really cheap pirated copies...

I always have a problem downloading the subtitles and fixing them to a torrent download, mainly because a torrent will not be the same length as the legit DVD copy and the subs are out of sync. I stick the the pirated guys that hang around Yongsan or Gangnam.

I would assume that KICKASS is too much for school, even though I personally LOVED the movie. The scene where the boy day dreams about his teacher taking off her clothes, all the way down to her bra and voluptuous breasts ... is too much to show in a school setting, IMO.
Smile. Pass it on.

I've found that the best movie to watch in high school is definitely REMEMBER THE TITANS (2000).

Not only is it a really entertaining movie, but I've found that it helps teach students about America but in an un-boring way. The movie a) Portrays an important time in American history b) Shows American football/school spirit c) Shows race relations in 1970's America... but all in a feel-good, Disney sort of way.

I've never been one to have students take notes/answer questions throughout the movie (I hated when teachers made me do this in school) so afterwards, I usually just have a discussion time with the students. I'll also try and reference certain scenes in the movie to drive home the point.

Speaking as someone that feels the way you do, but nonetheless makes students answer questions, here is why I have them answer specific questions.   If I simply have a conversation it would go as follows:

T)   What did you think of the movie?
S)  (silence or) fun, boring
T)   What happened so far in the movie?
S)  I don't know.

If I don't prepare specific questions (like for Citizen Kane  "What was rosebud?") it's a waste of time because students aren't really ready to have free conversations about movies.  Unless you have really advanced high school students (my high school students can't really have any useful free conversations.

If you were my student, I would tell you to prove to me that you can have an intelligent conversation about a movie without me preparing questions beforehand.   If you can, then we will do that.   If you can't, then the preparing questions is what I'm going to do.

My middle school boys love the Pink Panther movies.  The old (Peter Sellers) and the new (Steve Martin) are great.  The old ones have been harder to find complete with subtitles.  They love the slapstick.

School of Rock worked a storm for most of my high school students - even though a lot are very low level and aren't interested in school themselves. It's a pretty funny film, has a moral centre, decent music and the school setting is great as it shows the students what schools can be like in other countries, (albeit the school in this film is not an average school).

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions about movies, but Remember the Titans is not a terrible movie. I like Dumb and Dumber (hilarious on all fronts) but I don't see why you would show that in a class. I don't know what you would want the students to learn from it...unless the objective of the class was to give them a pure two hour break. Which is fine...as long as that's what you're going for.

Remember the Titans is by no means a masterpiece, but in the best way that Disney could for PG-13 rating, it does a pretty good job showing some important aspects of American society (american football, american history, american race relations). I once tried doing a diversity in America lesson with my kids and they were asleep in 5 minutes. I don't blame them, doing a ppt on a lesson like that isn't interesting at all. Therefore, this was my solution--so that I could teach them something with substance but not put them to sleep. That's all I'm saying.

For like all grades 3-6, Astro Boy worked well, like jaw dropping hypnosis, with Korean Subtitles.
Sorcerers Apprentice with high levels, 5 and 6, with Korean Subtitles as well.
Alpha and Omega - Grade 3-5
