Looking for ideas for low level students as I am being warned that my current level of work is to difficult. What are your recommendations.

You're going to have to be a little more specific.  For what grades?  What parts of the book are you teaching?  What have you had them doing so far?

for low level students, i usually put up pics and have them make a sentence using the key expressions. I assist them in every way possible and then have them repeat the sentence. Put up a few more for practice.

Today is the first time I looked at Grade 3 Lesson 7.  From my understanding, we're teaching our students how to be rude, obnoxious, and a know-it-all.  Did anyone else get that vibe?

I also love that it's the exact same vocabulary as Grade 2 (I can't believe that/That's amazing/What a surprise).

I think that's a great idea about the mini presentations though, and the loch ness monster clip.

This book, it just... it leaves me speechless.

Yes! I was so excited when we got it this year because, if you can believe it, last year's was actually worse. However, I had a big let down as soon as I opened it and read the material! Not only does it consistently steal material from Grade 2 (way more than Book 2 does from Book 1) but the reading passages are soooooo awkward. I still haven't forgiven them for Ch. 1.

Anyway, I suggest teaching "they say" instead of "it is said". Unless they're a story-teller "it is said" just sounds weird. I also suggest, for other frustrated teacher, to try and use less class time on book material if you're allowed to. Happily, my school is ok so long as I cover some of it, so I've been working on consistent problems with my students such as pronunciation. Next week we may just work on using articles correctly for half the class and book time for the rest. I'll share whatever I have if it works!

I'm still stumped on the communication spotlight for each lesson and for gr 2 and 3s. I can't seem to think of anything interesting or fun for this part of each lesson. What do you guys do for this section? Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

Grade 3  Lesson 7

I'm new to this book and I've got a lot of stuff to cover...I don't think I'll be able to cover all of this in one class and will probably have to supplement more for the next one.

Any ideas on how to spice it up would be greatly appreciated. ;D

Sonya

Heads up -- wrong form of "your/you're" on slides 5,6,7,8,9.  Should be "you're."
****EDIT***** files corrected now :)

Grade 1,2 and 3: Lesson 6 Week 2

Here are my contributions to Lesson 6 for all grades. I was feeling rather unimaginative and wanted to stick some kind of silly game on at the end of the lesson so I made a Lucky Wheel game for all three grades (obviously different questionjs for each grade) I've added in my introductory PPTs for each grade too in case they can be useful to anyone. The PPTs are cobbled together form other posters on here so cheers to the OPs!.

Future tense for Grade 1.

It's a little late, but I've been using this video and the attached worksheet as an Future Tense activity. This is my second year using the video and worksheet, so it's been tried and tested. I usually have them read the lyrics side first and then do the worksheet with VERY strict rules on "cunning".

It's Demi Lovato, one of the Disney kids. The students seem to really like the pop-y sound and I've been telling a bit of a lie by saying she's Justin Bieber's friend. But she probably is! I mean she's from the same Disney set as Selena Gomez, so they've likely at least met....

I also have a game prepped, that I've yet to try out.

Basically, the class lines up in two lines, in front of two stacks of cards at the front. Each stack has identical "future" questions. Students on each team need to answer the question at the top of the card pile. If they get their answer wrong (grammar mistake) they need to take another card until they get it right. The first team to finish their stack wins. You'll probably need your co-teacher to listen to one line's answers while you listen to the other. This will probably be too hard for my mid and low level kiddies, so I'll figure out some sort of adaptation.

Grade 2, Lesson 7.  Again, massively abbreviated because of Chuseok, and I only meet with these students once a week.

For the worksheet, I just made up some topics.  You can use the ones from the powerpoint, or think of your own!

Just read the posts about about Lesson 7 above which I'd missed before,

Also here's an activity I did for Grade 2.  Same format as last activity, just a bit harder

^ I did a simple game in which the students are supposed to line up according to who is taller, stronger (I made them arm wrestle), louder, etc.  I even wedged it into the "bridge" theme by calling it "The Bridge Game."  That turned out to be way fun, but I can easily see how it can lead to chaos with the wrong sort of class!

I still don't get how they come up with the themes for this book.  Bridges and..."Chuck has a stomachache"?  I do have a laugh with some of my high level students over the total randomness of the books!

Thanks! That game sounds great. I may have to modify it a bit for containment purposes, but what a fun and simple way to practice!

I loved the idea of this make sure to game.

I made a similar powerpoint on the "make sure to" theme of grade 3 lesson 6.2.

I made it easier by trying not to choose signs that have pictures. Some of the signs are serious and some of them are fun and a little more challenging.  Haven't tried it yet, so we'll have to see how this one goes!

Hi ! I am new to teaching and to this site, and i am using these textbooks, but for the Grade 1 i have the 2009 edition, for Grade 2 i have the 2010 edition and for grade 3 i have the 2011 edition. I am told to use the texts, the activity books, as well as the teacher's guides. Im not really sure where to start lol also, i am told to only cover the speaking parts but that is only two pages in each lesson, so they said one page per lesson - i feel like it is hard to make a 45 minute lesson on so little :P any help would be greatly appreciated !!

Some random Grade 1 2 & 3 ppts.

They're all really simple, for grade 1 it goes with the speaking worksheet 6-4 (the answers come up in the order they match to the Korean - I won't put Korean on my ppts)

Grade 2 I haven't had to use yet - it's just a quick way of covering good for you yet again. For higher level classes I'd make them say what they did from the picture then get someone else to praise them.

Grade 3 - hidden sports picture thingy, which apparently is the BEST THING EVER according to some of my students! (they're easily pleased!!) And ppt with pictures for them to give warnings about.  Also a Ch7 amazing facts ppt, it's based on the one from the 2nd grade (oh how I love being able to use the same stuff) and I've not used it, but it's just a 5minute 'I know you can do this but the book says we have to do it again' filler

Thank you so much, sophos! The Lucky Wheel game was such a huge hit with my 2nd graders that I'm going to change my 3rd grade lesson to include it, too! :) Much appreciated!

I think I'm ahead of everyone here.  I recently did Chapter 7 "Finding Korea Around the World" for 3rd grade.  I did a lesson the Korean Wave and am combining it into a 2 week lesson where they have a project.

The lesson focuses on giving news and responding with appropriate exclamations while discussing aspects of the Korean Wave.  Its girl-centric as I teach at an all girls school.  For the practice activity they must give news about the celebrities in the pictures (who are all in the news this past week).  Their partners must respond appropriately.

For the project - their groups have to pick on thing about Korean life or culture.  They will research/make a poster/create a dialogue using the target language.

Hope this helps anyone stuck.

Kpop overload lol

I did something quite similar to yours but used pics from Guinness World Records.

Also keep in mind that you should also include things from your own culture/country. That's one of the reasons why we are here. =)

No problems Bethinkorea - glad you found it useful! The kids go crazy for Lucky wheel usually - I think they just like watching other teams get minus points! Kids can be so cruel....

And sometimes the teachers like watching teams get minus points after minus points!!  ;D

I have to add my thanks for the Lucky Wheel game - I needed it after attempting to teach my lowest level 1st graders phone conversations. The look of relief I got from my CT was awesome! (neither of us could face corralling them into working)

I am working on some ideas for Lesson 7, Level 2 in the William Roszell version, and am having trouble coming up with a fun activity. Has anyone any activities that have worked well in the past? Input would be greatly appreciated!
